The driver, clearly confused, got out quickly. “I don’t know, Alpha,” he said before getting out. But Alpha Dominic didn’t let go of me. I could almost hear his heartbeat against my body.
Suddenly, I heard wolf howls. The air was thick with the wolves‘ distinct smell of decay and rot, mixed with the scent of fear and aggression. While wolf packs were common in the forest, what puzzled me was their boldness to attack us on the highway.
“Damn it!” Alpha Dominic cursed, looking at me frantically. “Stay in the car, okay? It looks like rogues. are attacking us.”
“I’m a trained warrior, Alpha Dominic, I can handle them,” I said, my voice firm.
“You can’t take that risk,” he said, his tone hardening. “Promise me you’ll stay here.”
“No, I’m coming with you to face them.” I’m confident in my combat skills.
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and for a moment, I saw pride in his eyes. “Alright. Then stay close to me.” He reached behind his pants and pulled out a gun, surprising me–this guy had silver bullets. “Be careful not to waste a shot.”
As soon as we got out of the car, we were surrounded by Thunderforge Pack warriors. Some had shifted into wolves, while others remained human, fighting off the rogue attack in both forms.
There were about twenty rogues in total. I’d never seen so many rogues gathered like this before. Alpha Dominic let out a deafening roar, his voice shaking the air around us. His claws extended, and black fur sprouted across his skin. He pounced at the nearest rogue, tearing it apart with brutal efficiency. The sight of him in action was terrifying, yet mesmerizing. Damn! It was spectacular watching him in action. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a rogue leaped over the car roof, and I spun around to face it. It lunged at me. I fired a shot. The rogue howled as it fell through the air, crashing toward me, but before it could touch me, Alpha Dominic grabbed it and threw it aside.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice gruff as his chest heaved.
I nodded, goosebumps covering my skin. He stared at me, then turned to deal with the other rogues. I shot two more rogues before the whole ordeal was over. When we finished, Alpha Dominic stood beside me and took my hand. “I’m proud of you,” he said, his eyes intense. I felt a mix of pride and embarrassment and tried to pull my hand away, but he wouldn’t let go.
The scene before us was horrific: lifeless rogues lay sprawled across the highway, their limbs twisted and mangled, with blood and torn flesh everywhere, creating a terrifying sight.
“Let’s move!” he ordered his pack. As soon as we got in the car, he grabbed his phone, still holding my hand, and called his Beta. He explained everything and ended with, “Find out what you can about this attack, ASAP,” he said, hanging up the call with a growl.
“Please let go of my hand, Alpha Dominic,” I glanced at him and softly reminded him.
“Oh!” He seemed to realize what he was doing, and for a brief moment, he released my hand. But then, before I could breathe a sigh of relief, he grabbed my other hand.
And what he said next made my heart skip a beat.
