Chapter 4
clumsily got up from the ground and brushed off the thick layer of dust on my pajamas.
The flames warmed my senses, but the voice was icy cold.
“It’s o
1 I just opened it and saw bugs crawling inside, probably cockroaches, so I burned it.”
He saw my actions and finally realized that he had gone too far.
He sighed before saying, “Are you okay? I’m sorry, I was just too impatient earlier. We’ve been collecting this photo album for ten years. Didn’t we agree to wait until we got married to share it with everyone? Why did you suddenly burn it?”
“If there are bugs, you can wait for me to come back, or send me a message to let me know, and I will figure out a solution.”
I didn‘
even want to look at him again.
The man in front of me is no longer the boy who once promised to protect me for a lifetime.
“You haven’t been home for a long time, you must be busy with work, so I won’t bother you with this small matter.”
He stood beside me, his gaze upon the bonfire filled with regret and sorrow.
This scene was as ironic as it could be.
He ruined our ten–year relationship for another woman, and now he’s playing the role of a passionate lover here.
I turned around and was ready to go back.
He, however, thought I was throwing a tantrum, reached out, and grabbed my arm, pulling me into
his embrace.
The sickly–sweet scent of black opium perfume made me sneeze repeatedly.
Arabella instantly composed herself, her mind incredibly clear. “Let’s talk.”
If I had heard this sentence before, perhaps I would have lost my sanity and forgiven him.
After being sent to the hospital for emergency treatment once, I no longer wanted to have any involvement with him.
I cannot continue deceiving myself with such feelings, where even my deadly allergen can be forgotten for another woman.
When he calmed down, I firmly pulled his arin apart.
“Don’t apologize to me, I feel sorry. How about you also make it up to me by throwing me a birthday party?”
In the past, due to my allergy to cream, I was always absent from the spotlight at my birthday parties, and they couldn’t be perfect.
But I will be leaving the day after tomorrow, and I want to have one last birthday celebration with
him involved.
He became flustered when he heard my request, which was so simple.
There was a faint sense of unease.
After nodding in agreement, just as he was about to ask something, his phone rang.
Glancing at the caller ID, he hastily explained to me, “There’s something urgent at work, I need to go and handle it. You don’t have to wait for me tonight. I promise I will fulfill what I promised you.
Don’t overthink it.”
He was speaking while his feet were eagerly stepping back.
By the time the sentence was finished, the person had already moved several tens of meters away.
I knew that was his exclusive ringtone for Miah.
But I didn’t confront him with his lie face to face.
The next morning, the person who was in charge of organizing the party arrived at the house.
Also the present was Miah.
She said it was her design plan, so she came over to supervise.
After I had finished arranging everything, I realized that this scene was just a simplified version of her birthday party.
After sending off the staff in the evening, she walked up to me with a provocative expression on her
face.
“Sister Celia, everyone has been busy all day. Take a look and see if it lives up to your status.”
Arabella hurriedly went to check on Ryan’s condition, seemingly on the verge of tears. “Are you okay? Is there anywhere that doesn’t feel well?”
As soon as the words fell, she glanced to the side and suddenly picked up the crystal ornament on the cabinet and smashed it hard on the ground.
Fragments cut through the soles of her feet, and she cried out in pain, feeling deeply wronged.
Before I could react, Lucas had already slapped me in the face.
Have you had enough of causing trouble? Miah kindly took time off to help you set up the party, aild you went crazy.
If you are not satisfied, then you can arrange it yourself!”
He didn’t give me a chance to explain, he vented and then grabbed Miah and rushed out.
I sat alone in the lively yet empty living room all night, guarding the sofa.
After daybreak, still no one came to join the party.
Well, in the past ten years, it seems like Lucas was the only friend I had.
After the birthday cake was delivered, I opened the packaging and cut myself a small piece.
Lit the smallest candle, closed my eyes, and made a wish.
I hope to never see you again for the rest of my life.
the
Because of my allergy, I ended up not eating the cake.
When the countdown ended and my phone kept reminding me incessantly, I left there without looking back, dragging my suitcase.
On the way to the airport, I sent Lucas the last message.
“Let’s just end it like this, and we don’t need to keep in touch anymore.”
Not to mention breaking up.
As the sentence ended, I bid farewell to ten years of my youth.
Just before boarding, at the moment when I turned off my phone, he went crazy and bombarded me with phone calls.
