Chapter 2
Emmett returned home at six o’clock.
When the car came to a stop, only the servant came forward.
He paused for a moment, took off his coat, but instead of handing it to the servant, he draped it over
his arm.
“What’s Sandra?”
“Mrs. Dudley hasn’t come back yet.” Emmett’s steps came to a halt.
He suddenly remembered that Sandra had impulsively gone to the market to buy fresh seafood.
He said he would go to pick her up and go home together.
But Jacey fainted while crying in front of her mother’s grave.
He was in a hurry to take Jacey to the hospital, so he forgot about picking her up.
Emmett glanced outside at the pouring rain.
There was a faint sense of guilt in my heart.
Is Sandra angry?
But as soon as this thought came up, Emmett shook his head and laughed.
He had never seen anyone gentler and more generous in character than his wife.
She would never get angry over such trivial matters.
“Sir, I see that you got caught in the rain. You should go upstairs and take a hot bath as soon as possible.”
The servant whispered quietly.
Emmett nodded, “If Sandra comes back, tell her I am upstairs.”
He went upstairs and took a hot bath. However, for some reason, this bath also made him feel a little uneasy.
Coming out of the bathroom, he felt a bit stuffy in the nose.
I wanted to take a cold medicine, but I couldn’t find the medicine box.
Emmett looked at his watch.
It was almost seven o’clock and Sandra had not returned yet.
The rain outside seemed to have stopped, but the sky had become a little darker.
He took out his phone and dialed Sandra’s number.
The bell rang for a long time, and no one answered until it finally hung up by itself.
Emmett furrowed his brow, which was an unprecedented occurrence.
Sandra would never miss his call.
Maybe it was heavy rain causing traffic congestion, or there was a minor accident on the road.
Emmett felt his heart suddenly tighten.
He quickly hit the second one.
The phone that could be connected just now, cannot be connected anymore. His eyebrows furrowed deeper, and his face gradually turned cold.
But still, he patiently hit the third one.
Still unable to connect.
He held the phone for a while.
Then I casually searched online.
Oh, it turns out that he was blacklisted by the other party.
Emmett suddenly burst into laughter.
He felt that he should take back the statement “I have never met anyone gentler and more generous- than my wife” anymore.
When the plane landed in that unfamiliar city, it was already late at night.
The signal was restored, and new messages kept coming into the phone.
I noticed that several text messages were sent from an unfamiliar number.
Hello Sandra, I am Jacey.
“I heard that you and Emmett didn’t come home for a long time because I was angry and had a quarrel. I was very worried and also very sorry.”
“I think it is necessary for me to explain to you about me and Emmett.”
“He did like me indeed, but that was all in the past. Emmett used to call me sister, and I saw him as
little brother too.”
“Because of me, there was a distance between you, and this is really not what I wanted to see.”
No one wanted Emmett to be happy more than me, Sandra. After receiving my message, could you give Emmett a call? Or at least let us know that you are safe.”
I found it very funny.
