Chapter 3
Ifyou were very worried about my safety, there were countless ways.
With Emmett’s background, it was as easy as pie to find information about my credentials.
After I left home, the first person to look for me was not the police.
But it was Jacey.
I really hated it. Jacey would quickly know about any little thing happening in my life.
I did not reply.
But Jacey was persistent, she made a phone call.
I answered the call.
There was silence on the other end of the phone.
A moment later, suddenly a very low laughter came. Then came Jacey’s voice. “So, you’re not as good as Emmett said.”
“He’s really patient. It’s been three years and only now he’s starting to make a fuss.”
“Sandra.”
Jacey suddenly called out my name, “Since you are willing to voluntarily give up your spot, I will make sure Emmett gives you more alimony.‘
I smiled and said, “Ms. Payne has been divorced once and has gone through a difficult divorce lawsuit, so she must have a lot of experience. Thank you in advance.”
“If I had a lot of money, I would treat Ms. Payne to coffee.”
After saying that, I immediately hung up the phone.
Then I blocked the number and set up call blocking for all unknown calls.
It was the third day since Sandra left home.
Emmett called her grandmother who was thousands of miles away.
After exchanging pleasantries, he cautiously mentioned, “Maci, Sandra mentioned a few days ago that she wanted to come back and see you.”
“No need to come back, I’m fine. It’s such a long way, don’t bother.” Emmett held his phone tightly on the spacious terrace, he could see the setting sun in the west.
And his heart, as if following the setting sun, sank little by little.
He knew that Sandra had only this one relative left.
So he naturally assumed that she must have been angry with him and temporarily went back to Maci’s place.
But she didn’t go.
So, where did Sandra go these past few days?
He turned around and saw the familiar dressing table at a glance.
The dressing table was as clean as usual, but her comb was not put away in time.
He walked over and picked it up, and there were a few long hairs tangled on the comb.
Sandra had very good and black hair, and she had never permed or dyed it.
He clenched the comb, lost in deep thought.
Jacey’s phone rang for the second time before he snapped out of it.
“Emmett, I just passed by your garden and saw that the roses had withered.”
Jacey’s voice came softly, “Let the gardener clean it up, it doesn’t look good.”
“No need,” he refused Jacey directly for the first time.
Jacey obviously hesitated for a moment, but quickly asked, “Emmett, are you angry?”
“Yes, this was your and Sandra’s home, so naturally, you were in charge…“.
Jacey’s voice trembled with a sob.
Emmett’s heart softened again, “I didn’t mean it that way, Jacey.”
“Is there still no news from Sandra?”
“No.”
“It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have come back…”
Jacey cried softly.
Emmett listened to the faint crying sound and felt a bit annoyed for some reason.
Sandra rarely cried.
Only on the night of their wedding, she cried in his arms for a while because of the pain.
And also, in the first year of their marriage, he missed her birthday..
It seems that at that time, Jacey’s husband was abusive, and he was too worried, so he left for
abroad overnight.
Emmett felt somewhat annoyed for no reason. After three years of marriage, he had never known that Sandra had such a stubborn and willful side.
He walked to the edge of the bed and sat
down.
After thinking for a long time, I finally decided to call Sandra, my only good friend.
My friend was surprised and said that he did not receive her call.
Sandra did not go to her city either.
When Emmett hung up the phone, his hands were shaking a little.
He lit a cigarette, but then didn’t smoke it.
Sandra was a bit of a clean freak.
When she was at home, there was not a hint of odor in any corner of the entire house.
The phone rang again, but it was an unfamiliar landline.
If it were in the past, he would never answer this kind of phone call.
But this time, he answered the call immediately.
“Hello,” his voice trembled a little.
“Emmett, it’s me, Sandra.”
