Chapter 9
I frowned. Even though my house was under surveillance, Jayden had arrived a bit too quickly.
Jayden stormed in, flanked by a garishly dressed Amara and a few of his friends.
He looked down at me, his voice dripping with anger. “Lena, are you done yet?”
“Not answering my messages, disappearing without a trace… what’s going on now?”
“Running away from home?”
“Trying to force me to apologize with these childish tactics?”
“Lena, should I call you naïve or immature,

using such low–class methods?”
I looked at Jayden, but inside, I was surprisingly calm.
I didn’t respond to his words. Instead, I walked straight ahead.
“Move aside,” I said.
Jayden’s pride was bruised.
In the seven years we had been together, I had always been accommodating, never once putting him in such a position where he would be publicly embarrassed.
His eyes blazed with fury as he grabbed my wrist. “Lena, you better think this through!”
“If you’re going to keep up this attitude, then know this: I’m not someone you can’t live

without!”
Jayden’s friends, who had been hanging around, started jeering as well.
“Mr. Smith, now that you’ve returned to the Smith family, you really want to marry someone from a broken family like this?”
“Isn’t it enough already?”
Amara twirled her hair, joining in with a smug smile. “Seriously, what’s so special about her?”
“You’d be better off with me. A perfect match -stronger together, and we already know each other so well, right, my little sidekick?”
Amara’s arm was draped around Jayden’s, and I couldn’t miss the large diamond ring she wore.

It was the same one I had waited six months for, yet it never came.
Amara practically pressed herself against Jayden, her chest pushing into his arm, a provocative grin spreading across her face.
Jayden didn’t pull away from her, but his tone softened. “Lyn, I’m not that heartless. I still have some feelings for you.”
“As long as you apologize, this time, I’ll forgive you. We can pretend like nothing ever happened.”
He pressed his lips together and stared at me, waiting for my response. But my reaction was destined to disappoint him.
I quietly looked at the man I once loved and said softly, “Jayden, since you’re being so

fixed his eyes on me. His gaze was filled with fury. “Is this your answer?”
“Seven years of feelings, and just like that, you’re ready to throw it all away?”
I froze, a sharp pain tugging at my heart.
Taking a deep breath, I forced a smile and said, “Yes. I don’t want it anymore.”
I looked Jayden in the eye, my voice steady. “Honestly, your arrogance is pretty intense. I don’t know if anyone else will tolerate it like I did.”
“If you end up with someone else in the future, you’d better work on that temper of yours. Love is about mutual understanding, and so is growth.”
“Let’s part on good terms. I’m leaving now

After all, he had once been the person l loved. Even in parting, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything cruel.
The words I had just spoken were my final piece of advice to him, hoping that, after we parted, we could both become better versions of ourselves.
But Jayden clearly didn’t understand the meaning behind my words. He took them as an insult, standing there trembling with rage.
I didn’t feel the need to explain myself.
Before leaving, I took one last, deep look at the apartment where Jayden and I had spent seven years together. Then, I opened the door and walked out, leaving everything from those years behind.
I could hear Jayden’s mocking voice echoing from inside.
“I really don’t get it. How is Lena still so childish?”
“She was obviously jealous just now, obviously can’t let go of me. She’s still in love with me, yet she’s forcing me to bow to her with this childish stunt.”
“Pathetic.”
“I bet you, within three days, she’ll come crawling back, apologizing to me.”
“But I’ll never forgive her. She’ll regret this.”
Jayden’s friends chimed in, murmuring in agreement. Amara even repeated his words, claiming that I would regret it.

I lowered my gaze. Was it laughable?
Maybe.
I quickened my pace, pulling my suitcase behind me.
Let it be as he wished–his future would no longer have anything to do with me.
