Chapter 9
I blinked innocently. “I didn’t do anything.”
“You liar! Is this your way of getting revenge? Trying to destroy me?!”
“Mr. Greer, what has this woman told you? She’s out of her mind! She’s held a grudge against me for years. When she and my dad went through that ugly divorce, she vowed to get back at me. Don’t trust a single word she says! Griffergy Tech is a valuable partner, and we are serious about collaborating on your solar energy project. Your technology is decades ahead of the competition. We may not be at your level yet, but we’re keen to learn from you. Didn’t we already settle this over the phone?”
Lachlan shot back, “I see no reason to

partner with your company. Twenty years in this industry, and you’ve just gone public. And as for your so–called investment t
strategy, it’s nothing more than poachingg other people’s clients.”
“Is that what she said? Clients will always s choose the best offer. I provided a superior price, so naturally, they went with me. I’m nott claiming to be at your level–not by a long g shot. You’re brilliant, my idol, truly! When !! heard I might work with you, I was so excited d I couldn’t sleep. Please, Mr. Greer, don’t cancel our agreement over biased rumors.”
Lachlan glanced at me with a sly smirk, clearly enjoying the spectacle Juniper was making of himself.
“Here’s an idea,” Lachlan proposed, “if your stock holds above $70 per share by the end of today, I’ll agree to the partnership.”

Juniper breathed a sigh of relief and promptly checked his phone. A flicker of triumph crossed his face. “That’s not an issue! Yesterday, we were at $85 per share.. While there’ve been some fluctuations today, there’s no way it’ll dip below $70.”
However, as he examined his phone, his eyes widened in disbelief, incessantly refreshing the page.
Griffergy Tech’s stock was in freefall- plunging like a stone. It reached the limit down, and the decline was calamitous.
“What the hell is happening? How could the stock drop like this? Mr. Greer, let me explain. I’ll get to the bottom of this. It wasn’t like this yesterday! Something’s definitely wrong!”
“No investigation needed,” Lachlan said icily.

“B’Because you insulted my mother. Consideter thisis your lesson.”

the world’s wealthiest man.
At that moment, Genevieve approached Lachlan, murmured something to him, and then joined me.
Smiling, I turned to the crowd. “Permit me to introduce my three wonderful children. This is my eldest, Lachlan, the richest man on the planet. Next is Genevieve, Research Director at the Frontier Technological Research Institute and a trailblazer in advanced tech. Lastly, my youngest, Isadora, heads Winchester International Institute, the prestigious private school.”
As I spoke, a buzz of whispers filled the
room.
“Wow, Clarisse really struck gold. Every one of her kids is outstanding!”
