Chapter 19
Chapter 19
The next moment, a heavy impact hit, and the car window shattered into pieces.
Blood surged out like a spring.
Before the pain could fully register, a profound sense of confusion and numbness spread over him.
In the moments before losing consciousness, Charlie used his last ounce of strength to tear off the necklace from his
neck
The car screen, smashed into pieces, still played faint music.
“I once had you, it really breaks my heart.”
Jenna learned about the car accident involving Charlie eight hours after the incident occurred.
That night, the family still stayed at the old house.
The two girls were already asleep, still mumbling in their dreams about saving a piece of cake.
The couple thought the girls were still thinking about the castle cake and were planning to order another one the next day. Just then, Chad received a call.
His face, which had been filled with smiles, instantly turned serious as he quickly put on his clothes.
“Big Brother says Charlie was in a car accident. I’m going to the hospital to check on him. Jenna, stay at home with the kids and Dad. Don’t let this matter spread yet.”
Jenna was shocked by the news.
She thought that as long as Chad stayed at home, they could avoid the disaster, but she never expected Charlie to be the one in trouble.
The same day, the same cause – both involving members of the Spencer family….
Such coincidences made her question whether it was fate, or if someone was pulling the strings.
If it was truly fate, why should the ending that was supposed to be for Chad fall on Charlie instead?
If it was an intentional accident, who would harbor such a deep grudge against the Spencer family?
Jenna spent the entire night thinking, but she still couldn’t find any answers.
When morning came, she received a message from Chad.
“Rescue failed.”
Just those four simple words, yet Jenna understood the meaning clearly.

She clenched her hands and closed her eyes.
The heart that had been in turmoil all night suddenly sank deep into despair.
After all these years, she had mostly let go of the past grievances.
She had only ever viewed Charlie as a distant relative.
But with over a decade of shared history, hearing about his sudden death caught her completely off guard. Even though she wasn’t exactly heartbroken, it still left her breathless.
Her emotions weren’t so much sadness as they were confusion and helplessness.
She felt a helplessness from the loss of an old acquaintance.
And a fear of the unpredictable twists of fate.
After the funeral. Chad informed Jenna of the investigation results.
The t
police say it was an intentional murder, but they have no information on the perpetrator yet. The car didn’t have a license plate, and the police suspect it was stolen from a scrapyard.
They are still investigating. From the moment of the accident to the time the doctor announced his death, Charlie was clutching a necklace. We don’t know if it was left by the murderer or if it has some other significance.”
Upon hearing this, Jenna furrowed her brows slightly.
“A necklace? What necklace?”
Chad took out a photo taken at the hospital and handed it to her.
At the sight of it, Jenna immediately recognized the bloodstained necklace.
It was the gift Charlie had given her for her coming–of–age ceremony.
The day before her wedding to Chad, she had taken off the necklace and returned it to him.
She hadn’t expected that, after all this time, he still kept it.
A wave of conflicting emotions surged within her.
Besides that, one thought kept flashing through her mind.
But she still didn’t have a clear idea of what it meant..
After Charlie’s passing, Chad took the children back to the old house every week to spend more time with the elderly Mr. Spencer.
Everyone tacitly avoided bringing up his name.
In the eyes of the two little girls, Charlie had just gone to a faraway place, and they didn’t know when he would

return.
Every time Chad bought a cake, the girls would always save a piece in the fridge.
As time passed, the sorrow in the house gradually faded.
The two little girls grew more mischievous and, without warning, would turn the house upside down.
One afternoon, after waking from her nap, Jenna saw them sneakily hiding in a corner, rummaging through
something.
She was about to go over and scare them, when they came running with a few pages of paper in hand.
s Star?”
“Mom, who is Star?”
Jenna froze, then noticed the familiar papers they were holding
It was a stack of love letters that Chad had hidden.
After seven years of marriage, it was something she had searched high and low for in their bedroom, but she never found. Yet, now, the two children had managed to find it.
Jenna couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head.
She placed the letters in a box to hide them, then whispered something to the girls.
When Chad returned, the two little girls eagerly ran up to him, surrounding him.
“Dad, who is Star? Why did you write so many letters to her?”
Seeing the papers in their hands, Chad’s eyelids twitched. He was about to take them, but then he heard Jenna’s cough.
