“Honey, I suddenly feel unwell. Can we go home? Please?”
I spoke up.
Daniel’s face darkened, but he didn’t say anything.
He then shook the camera hanging around his neck and said, “The scenery inside is even better. How about I take some beautiful maternity photos of you? Otherwise, this camera will have been a waste of a trip.”
I glanced at Daniel and pointed lazily at the view in the distance.
“How about we take a few photos here? It’s nice enough.”

“Sweetheart, what’s with you? You’ve never been this delicate before! Please don’t give up now”
Daniel’s voice softened, his tone coaxing.
He knew I couldn’t resist when he was like this. Whenever he needed something from me, Daniel would act this way.
I still shook my head, growing impatient.
“Next time. I’m in my late pregnancy, my feet are swollen, I can’t walk far!”
“Sweetheart, I’ll carry you.”
“I said I don’t want to go! Are you enough? The scenery is the same everywhere, why do we have to go inside to see it?”

I snapped, my voice rising in volume.
Seeing me getting angry, Daniel twisted the cap off the bottle and drank heavily.
Penny quickly stepped in to soothe him.
“Daniel, since Jane says she’s tired, let’s just go back. She’s pregnant, too much strain is bad for the baby.”
After hearing Penny, Daniel’s expression softened slightly.
I exhaled in relief.
Then Daniel said, “Since we’re here, let’s at least take a few photos to remember the trip.”
Penny chimed in, “Yeah, Jane, just step back. We’ll take the photos and then go home.”

Both of them turned their eyes on merin in unison.
I knew I couldn’t act too strangely, so bl nodded.

As I watched Daniel walk further off the beaten path, with fewer tourists around us, a a bad feeling suddenly crept over me.
At that moment, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen, almost knocking me off balance.
Penny reacted quickly and caught me.
“My stomach hurts, I need to go to the restroom.”

I said, clutching my belly and turning to walk quickly back the way we came.
After leaving the scenic area, I bought a bottle of green tea from a vending machine and drank it all in one go.
Then I found a shady spot to sit down and closed my eyes to rest for a while, feeling a bit better.
I was thinking about how to make up an excuse to leave with Penny when I saw two familiar figures in the distance. From their clothes, I could tell it was probably Penny and Daniel.
They seemed to be in a heated argument.
A sense of dread washed over me. Could it be that Penny told Daniel what I discovered?

I stood up, feeling anxious, and cautiouslyly moved closer to them, wanting to hear whatt they were arguing about.
They were hidden by the trees, so it seemed d like they hadn’t noticed me.
The closer I got, the more I sensed something was off.
Penny’s face was red with anger, while Daniel appeared to be trying to calm her down. He even reached out to hug her.
Penny pulled away from him and pointed at him, her tone furious.

“She’s already figured out our plan. This is too risky. We need another way. You can

stop. I’ll handle it! You’ve got to keep her calm, don’t let anything slip. If worse comes to worst, you can find an excuse to stay away for a few days.”
A loud crash sounded in my head, as if something had exploded inside my mind.
I clamped my hand over my mouth, trying to suppress any sound.
Despair filled my chest as I watched them, unable to hear what Daniel was saying anymore.
One was my husband, the other was my stepmother. They had both betrayed me and were plotting to kill me and my unborn child.
