Chapter 10
His side was always filled with people, four of them in fact, and there were constant arguments every day.
I made up my mind, and without hesitation, I listed the place with a realtor.
I moved back into the suburban villa.
Since Penny’s miscarriage, Daniel hadn’t been back to the company.
I picked myself up, replaced the staff, and prepared to recruit a new team.
I threw myself completely into work.
But little did I know, a dangerous storm was quietly brewing.

The police checked his records and revealed he had a history of mental illness.
“How could someone with a history of mental illness be allowed to look for work?”
I racked my brain and realized that this person wasn’t one I had hired.
In a flash of clarity, I finally understood the connection.
“Officer, I suspect this was a deliberate attempt to kill me!”
The police took my words seriously.
That afternoon, Daniel was arrested.
This man had been hired by Daniel, and they were close–Daniel’s high school classmate.

The police investigated Daniel and his accomplice’s phones, where they found incriminating evidence.
Before the trial, Penny came to beg me.
“Jane, you’re fine now, aren’t you? Please, I beg you, let Daniel go.”
How ridiculous. My survival was just luck, not your mercy.
“Penny, you’re an accomplice. I didn’t pursue any charges against you out of consideration for how many years you’ve been in my family. Do you think I’m just that kind–hearted?”
Penny glared at me with venom, shouting in a frenzy, “I truly hate that I didn’t kill you! I should have killed you!”

One night, while I was at the office, sorting through meeting materials, I was the only one left in the massive building.
Then Daniel appeared. He demanded ten million in compensation.
I scoffed at his audacity.
But then, unexpectedly, he pulled out a lighter.
Only then did I catch the strong scent of gasoline.
The shrill sound of an alarm pierced the quiet night air.
“If you don’t agree, we’ll both die! I can’t live anymore, so I’ll drag you to hell with me!”

Soon, fire trucks arrived downstairs, and the fire was quickly put out.
The surveillance footage captured everything.
