Violet had lost it. Completely.

She lunged at me, and though I tried to dodge, she slammed into my shoulder, sending a jolt of pain. through my body. I couldn’t help but cry out. My scream seemed to make her even more frantic–she grinned wickedly and came at me again, this time aiming for my head. I quickly rolled away, and she crashed into the ground with a loud thud. As I got to my feet, she twisted her head in time, and I landed squarely on her nose. Blood poured from her nostrils as she staggered back, her hands clutching her face.
The door suddenly flew open, and Julian rushed in. “Violet, Violet!”
Tears streamed down Violet’s face. “Julian, she–she made me fight her, just so she could–do this. Our baby-” she broke down in sobs.
I froze, staring at her in disbelief. A baby? She was pregnant? This was all a set–up. God, how could I compete with that?
“How could you?” Julian roared, grabbing me by the throat with a force that sent panic coursing through me.
I clutched at his wrists, trying to gasp for air, but his grip tightened. “Julian!” I choked out.
He shoved me to the ground like I weighed nothing. “Stay away from her, Blair. This is your last warning. She’s carrying my puppy!” He turned to her, scooped her into his arms like she was the most precious thing in the world, and strode out of the training grounds.
I watched them leave, feeling every ounce of strength drain from my body. Julian’s words hurt more than any blow I’d taken in training today.
Two years. I’d tried to get pregnant with his child, and nothing. And now this girl shows up, and she’s already carrying his heir? The thought in my mind felt like a cruel joke.
Dragging myself out of the training grounds, I felt every pair of eyes on me. This was going to be the pack’s new favorite gossip. Violet was carrying Alpha Julian’s heir, and I was… nothing.
All my hopes, everything I had worked for–my Alpha, my pack, my life, my career, my reputation- vanished in an instant. I felt like the ground had just opened up beneath me, swallowing me whole.
I didn’t even remember how I made it back to my room or when I collapsed onto the bed, but the constant buzzing of my phone pulled me back into the moment.
“Blair!” It was Aria.
“Girl, sorry for calling so late. I just got back from a hike. How are you? Where are you?” Her cheerful voice made my heart ache with nostalgia, and I wiped away the tears I hadn’t even realized I’d shed. Goddess, I missed her.
I got straight to the point. “Aria, I need help.” I wanted to tell her everything, but I knew if I did, she’d come here, and that would only make everything worse.
There was a pause on the other end of the line. “I’m listening.”

“I need an emergency meeting with Alpha Dominic. Is that possible?”
“Dominic?” Her voice sounded surprised.

“Yes. Can you arrange it?” I held my breath. Alpha Dominic was a big deal. He didn’t meet with just anyone. Trying to get a meeting through normal channels would take weeks, if not months
But Aria was his sister, and if she asked, he’d come see me tomorrow.
“Okay, I’ll ask him. Anything else?” Her concern was clear, even though we hadn’t spoken in three years, her concern for me was still just as strong.
“…No,” I said, my voice rough.
“Take care, Blair,” she said softly before hanging up.
I held the phone to my chest, looking up at the ceiling and silently praying to the Goddess. I needed to see Dominic. I needed to get out of this hell.
The call made me feel a bit better. That evening, I went to the forest to let Sage out because I wanted to step back and heal.
“Sage, take over,” I called for her, but there was no response.
“Sage?” I called again. Still nothing. Panic began to rise. I ran through the woods, shouting for her, but she wouldn’t answer.
“No. No. No. Sage, you can’t be gone. Where are you?” I could feel the trauma of Julian’s betrayal taking its toll on her. Finding out about Violet’s pregnancy had been the last straw.
I lay on the ground, curled into a fetal position, too empty even to cry. My phone rang again, but this time I answered it mechanically. “Hello?”
“Blair!” Aria’s voice was excited, as if nothing had happened. “Alpha Dominic can meet with you the day after tomorrow. He’s coming to the Obsidian Pack to meet with Alpha Julian.”
