The interaction between Alpha Julian and Blair was enough to tell me the massive problem they had in their relationship. It was falling apart fast. This wolf was making her insignificant day by day.
“That’s strange,” I said to her. Then I turned my face to Julian. “But then I guess it’s a perfect time to talk about it, Alpha Julian, isn’t it?” I walked to the writing desk, where I pulled out a purple folder that I had placed there the night before. I saw surprise in her eyes because she didn’t recognize that folder.
I opened it and took out a set of stapled papers. “This is the deal we signed. I have several copies. We agreed that Luna Blair would stay at Thunderforge Pack for the duration of the Blue Bay Project. Your Beta, Nash, insisted I deposit money in advance, which I did. And now you’re backing out of a signed contract. I trust you understand the penalties this will incur.”
Julian’s blood drained from his face as he flipped through the pages. This slap to Julian’s face was deafening. I enjoyed watching his pale expression.
Blair’s face lit up with pleasant surprise. “What deal is this?” she asked her husband innocently as she took the papers from him. “And why wasn’t I told about it?”
Julian’s voice turned harsh. Ignoring her completely, he addressed me. “I’m sending Nash to handle this instead of her. He’ll do a better job.”
I shook my head. “A contract is binding, Alpha Julian. If you want out, the penalty is $100,000.”
Julian’s face twisted with rage. “Alpha Dominic, I won’t have my wife staying here! She belongs with my pack.”
“Then why did you agree to these terms, Alpha Julian? Did you fraudulently use your wife’s name to secure this deal?” I countered. “If so, I’ll have no choice but to report this to the Elder Council.”
Julian went white. He knew a fraud conviction would make him ineligible for inter–pack trade, devastating his pack’s economy. His jaw clenched so tight I thought his teeth might crack.
“This is extortion!” he snarled.
I narrowed my eyes as I returned to my desk. “No, from where I stand, it’s fraud.” I was leaving him no
way out.
Julian’s breathing grew ragged. He glared at Blair, clearly trying to communicate through their mind link. Surprisingly, Blair remained unresponsive, which only increased his frustration and confusion.
“I need to speak with my wife,” he finally declared.
“By all means,” I replied with a smirk. “Talk all you want, but she’s staying here for the project.” I watched them leave, but if he thought he’d get any private time with her, he was mistaken. My Beta, Kade, had already instructed our warriors to keep them under constant surveillance. As expected, Julian returned quickly, announcing, “Gamma Grant and Lowell will stay to supervise her until the work is complete.”
“Works for me,” I shrugged. My research had confirmed Grant and Lowell were from Silvermoon pack- Blair would be comfortable with them.

Julian shot her a final glare. “Finish this in a week!”
Blair nodded. “I will.”
Fuming, Julian stormed out. This time, Blair didn’t follow.

Sleep was impossible that night. I tossed and turned restlessly in my bed, acutely aware that my mate was under my roof, though in another room. Her scent had completely enveloped me. My wolf, Kane, howled within, demanding to see her. To appease his restlessness, I allowed him control for a forest run. However, Kane had different intentions.
Before I could stop him, Kane found himself on her balcony, drinking in her scent. Fuck. I hoped he hadn’t marked his territory around her room and balcony to ward off other males. I expected him to retreat, but instead, he pushed open the balcony door and entered her room.
Files and documents were scattered across her bed. Kane found her sleeping in the middle of this chaos, her lips slightly parted. Moving carefully to avoid disturbing her, he climbed onto the bed, cleared away the files, and settled beside her. I urged him to leave, terrified he’d startle her if she woke, but he wouldn’t budge.
Blair unconsciously turned toward him, entangling herself in his fur. A low growl escaped him as he froze in place. He remained motionless for hours until she rolled away. Only then did he allow me to
shift back.
Back in human form, I gazed at her, fighting the overwhelming urge to pull her against my chest and either hold her close or claim her completely. Instead, I maintained control. I gathered all the scattered files, organizing them neatly on the writing desk. After covering her with a soft, warm blanket, I returned to my room. Later, wearing only my jeans, I returned to study her research files and documentation. Her work was impressive–my chest swelled with pride at her accomplishments.
The following evening, I took Blair on a tour of my pack, wanting everyone to see her. What unfolded under the star–filled sky would surpass anything I could have imagined.
