Chapter 2
Chapter 2
All heads immediately snapped our way and the loud gasps filled my ears. I opened my mouth to scream but Ella beat me to it. help! She called on top of her lungs.
Even in my struggle, my head turned to her in disbelief, Ella used to win swimming competitions when we were children, to listen to her pretend to drown caused a shudder to run down my wet spine.
1 snapped into panic as I realised the water current was pulling me down as I continued to battle against it. My heart raised to my throat, I began to gasp in fear, I hated the water, it was the same way my mother had passed as a little child, Ella knew
this trauma too.
I could feel my breath seizing, and my gasps growing louder as I splashed my hands around.
I watched as Neil sprinted towards the pool, taking his suit jacket off and running on full speed towards us
I felt a flicker of hope wash through me, he was definitely coming to save me.
When he jumped into the water and went after Ella, I could feel my heart stop. Neil’s face was consumed with worry, as he held her, he had never looked at me that way, I didn’t even know he was capable of doing that.
A tear slipped down my cheek as he pulled her out of the water while ignoring my existence.
I began to sink, I truly had no one, no one at all.
“Oh my God, she’s going to drown, I heard one man panic, I’d never seen him before but he was running towards me, taking his suit off.
Right before my eyes closed, I saw him attempting to jump into the pool before I fully sunk, feeling the water rush into my lungs.
The water surrounded me and I thought back to the years when Neil never showed me any type of care, I wasted my time and this was the last straw, Ella was all he would ever care about..
My eyes shot open in shock as 1 felt hands grip my waist, I could only see the silhouette of my saviour.
I gasped but I couldn’t seem to keep my eyes open. I heard his voice, it felt like it was echoing from a distance.
I could feel the pressure on my chest as he pumped, “open your eyes, stay with me,” the voice called, but I couldn’t.
Was it the strange man? Why did he sound so worried for me? Nobody ever worried this much for me.
All of a sudden, a mouth closed over mine, pumping the air into my lungs. I coughed out the water, gasping for air.
“Call 911! Call them!” Was the last thing I heard before completely losing my consciousness.
“She’s not going to die, you need to sleep. I knew that familiar nasally voice.
“Ella is right, Neil,” that was his mother’s voice for sure, “you need to rest, it’s been five hours, the doctor said she would be finel
“I’ve tried to convince him mother, I don’t know why he won’t leave… Ella countered.
“Right!” His mother snapped, “Ella also fell into that pool, you don’t see her being dramatic about it,” she scoffed.
I slowly opened my eyes, wincing at the headache that accompanied the extremely blinding lights. Slowly, my eyes started

to focus again and the shadows of the people next to me became clear.
My eyes first met Ella’s, she had a huge blanket draped over her, his mother was still in her pretty green dinner gown but Neil shocked me the most. He was staring at me, his brows creased into worry, his eyes soft as they focused on me and for the first time in the history of our marriage. Neil was holding my hand.
His eyes widened, and he tightened his grip on my handl.
I attempted to sit up and he immediately got to his feet, arms around my shoulders as he assisted me.
“Are you okay?” He spoke into a soft tone, his voice exuding nothing but care.
At first I thought I must have died. That was the only reason Neil could be showing me this care. All of a sudden, the image of my husband leaving me in the pool flooded my head and I instantly repelled from him.
He tried to reach for me again. “Leah…”
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped at him. I looked around at a confused Ella and my mother in law.
“My phone…” I began to look around me in panic, “where’s my phone?”
“It’s in a repair shop, Neil said.
I attempted to get to my feet, but noticed all the hospital tubes that were connected to me and the horrible hospital gown I was wearing
“What are you doing?” The confusing concern in his voice distracted me, ‘I should get the doctors.”
I ignored him, disconnecting myself from all the equipments as I got to my feet.
“Leah, what are you doing?” He called as I headed towards the door.
-I stopped for a moment to stare at Ella, she inched back, a look of fear sitting on her face like she expected me to do
something to her. I clenched my fists by my side, to prove a point, she really had to go this far, I shook my head at her, “he’s all yours.”
I continued to head out of the hospital room. ignoring the weird stares I got, and Neil’s call for me.
A man that would leave me to die would never care, what point was I to hold on to? I couldn’t ignore that he left me to die.
“Leah..” he caught my wrist, spinning me around to look at him.
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped at him.
“Leah, he frowned in confusion.
“Neil,” I started, “I don’t want to ever see you again in my life.
“What are you trying to say?”
I swallowed, taking a step back, “I want a divorce.
I saw the color wash off his face almost like it wasn’t what he wanted all those years. I opened my mouth to speak when I noticed his focus on something behind me.
“And I can help with that, I’m a divorce lawyer, the voice behind me called. I turned around on my heels and I recognised him to be the man who must have jumped in to save me earlier.
