My lips pulled toss a smirk. I adjusted the shades I was wearing ranching a glimpse of my bright red lipstick in a hallway
“Why are you doing this?” He asked me the same question be’d asked me this morning

Tes but you refused to step foot in New Orleans for the longest time, and now you’re here, doing all this” he said, pulling my arm so I could dodge bumping into a staff coming in the opposite direction
I turned my head to him. Mas, you do realize Mr Ali wanted me to be his third wife.” I pressed one hand to my chest, “that’s how Light we were and now he’s dead, it’s only right I come to bid him a farewell, as he rots in-”
“Could you lower your voice? Max panicked, looking around us, it’s enough that you’re dressed in so much designer items like you ‘re here to celebrate, no need to cause a scene by cussing him out.”
“Mix.” I rolled my eyes. I told you not to come with me if you were only here to bug me, you know I would very much have preferred that you staved back with Helen”
fine.” he sighed in defeat, “you know someone had to be here to stop you from doing something regretful,” he eyed me from head to toe. “”but couldn’t you have worn something less
“Less what?” I snapped at him, turning to look at him
He scratched the back of his neck nervously, slightly apologizing to the woman I’d moved out of my way, “you know I would never judge you for anything but even 1 think this is a little too much, it’s a funeral, everyone’s mourning and-”
“Oh Max. you know I will always dress right for the occasion, I stared down at my Louis Vuitton purse, “have you forgotten” I fed my eyes on him, “what he called me the first day I met him?”
I stopped walking, putting one hand around Max’s throat, he held me like this” I tucked his hair behind his ear with my other hand before moving it down to cup his chin, my eyes fixed on his lips, as he scanned my face, I leaned in, our chests touching “whispering in my ears like this, and saying you want the job? Dirty little slut?”
I pulled back and smiled, doing a little spin “so that’s what I’m giving him, what he wanted, a dirty little slut.”
I resumed walking and May who had been frozen to the ground attempted to catch up with me, “that was a long time ago Leah, what you’re doing is risky, you do realize Mr Ali was a well respected man, a lot of guests here will be elite, and many of them are likely investors, you’ve spent years building your high end luxury fashion brand, there’s no need to bring it all down because of-
“There’s our seats” I pointed at the chairs lined up at the far end of the hall, cutting him off.
Max elacked his tongue, giving up and taking his seat beside me.
The hall was decorated with bright lights and multiple flowers, huge pictures of the man who was supposed to be the first investor when I proposed my business idea, and said he’d only help me if I was his personal slut, hung around the room.

I flipped my wrist to check the time on my watch, “we are right on time, I crossed one leg over the other, not caring that half my thighs were in sight.
I sat back, relaxed, feeling better about myself, especially loving the scornful looks and remarks from those mumbling
beside me.
Everyone’s attention suddenly shifted to a woman holding a microphone, she cleared her throat and her swollen eyebags were a giveaway that Mr Ali must have been trally important to her.
She sniffed into the microphone, her wrinkly face pale and swollen, “Thank you so much for showing up to celebrate the life of our trusted brother, husband and son, if anyone would like to say something about his goodness and kindness, please come forward”
I immediately took the cue, raising my hand, the smile on my face spreading even further.
Max caught my hand just as quickly as I’d raised it. Staring at me with wide eyes, he shook his head fast.
“Please,” he started through gritted teeth, “please
“Ugh.” I rolled my eyes, reluctantly putting my hand down, watching others scramble forward to give their teary eyed speeches.
I clicked my tongue, shaking my head, clutching my purse to my side as I got to my feet.
“Where are you going?” Max’s worried voice filled my ears.
“To the bathroom, I think I’m going to puke if I sit here one more second listening to how that devil is an angel, I raised a brow at him, “you can let me do that much if you’re not going to let me speak my mind, no?”
He stared at me reluctantly before nodding, “just the bathroom?”
I rolled my eyes a second time before leaving his side and heading out of the hall. I rummaged through my purse for the cigarettes I’d obtained from my staff, “there’s no lighter in here, fuck it,” I thought. I was still deep in my search, I had no idea there was something in my way.
I groaned at the impact as I knocked into what had seemed like a wall. Pressing my hand to my forehead, I was ready to cuss out when I saw that it wasn’t a wall but a full grown man.
“What are you? Fucking blind? You couldn’t I trailed off as my eyes met the six–feet–something man.
Staring right back at me was a face I never thought I’d see in life.
