I stared
ankly as he twisted the man’s hand behind him
What do you think you’re doing?” His voice called. I could barely see his face, the moonlight being the only source of illumination but I could still sense his tensed his muscles were with the way there were fighting to breath in that black T- shirt.
“Okay, I’m sony. I didn’t know she was with you, the man called in a screeching voice. I couldn’t help the amuse laughter just because he sounded like a little girl
“Even if you didn’t know, you have no right to touch any woman like that. Have you lost your mind? Neil’s serious tone killed my laughter.

The man continued to scream at the top of his voice as he realized his hands were being forced behind him. The other men with him had already retreated. Neil only let go when we heard a snapping sound, and I was sure the man’s arm would never
be the same.
I broke out laughing as the guy scurried out of sight. “Loser.”
Neil gave me a sharp look.
I shrugged. “what? He should I have put up more of a fight,” I folded my arms across my chest and rolled my eyes. “I find those kind of men attractive.” I was saying when Neil interrupted, gripping my shoulders and shaking me slightly, “are you okay!”
I brushed his hands off with a frown. Tm fine. Why are you out here, anyway? I’m starting to believe that you’re stalking
me”
“You weren’t in bed, so I was curious.” He said as if it was the most casual thing ever.
“So you really are stalking me.” I couldn’t contain my shock, my mouth dropping open a little, “What is wrong with you! I’m a grown woman, okay? I don’t need you to-”
“You shouldn’t be out here on your own. It’s an unknown island. These goons, we don’t know how many of them there are.” He looked over my shoulder as he said the words, inching closer like he expected more randoms to pop out of nowhere.
I ignored him and started walking away. I didn’t want to have any more conversations with Neil, nor did I care to give him the satisfaction of seeing me rattled.
He followed behind me persistently as I made my way toward the ocean.
“Where are you going now?”
“I’m not answerable to you,” I snapped.
“You’re treating me like I’m the bad guy here,” he said, his voice tinged with frustration. “And I didn’t come to play the hero.”
I stopped and turned slightly toward him. “I hate men who play the hero. I could’ve saved myself.” And it was true. I hated feeling like I was weak so I had learnt many ways to protect myself in the past few years.

“What is it to you?” I groaned, kicking a pebble out of my way, “and besides, there’s no beds here.” I said my voice quieter as I

walked in the sand, getting closer to the water.
“Okay. Aren’t you the one who was excited to experience life through the lens of the poor?” he said sarcastically.
“Not like you were poor anyway,” he added. “Your father is literally one of the leading names in the tech industry”

That made me freeze in my tracks. I had disowned my father after what he did to me, and he hadn’t even bothered to reach out since all because of my stepmother.
He must have noticed my sudden reaction because he stopped walking behind me for a while. I headed toward the water. taking a deep breath and letting out a sigh of relief as I embraced the comfort it brought. I spread my arms, letting the wind toss my hair around, as well as my gown.
I reached for the hem of my gown and began to pull it over my head, but his hand caught mine, snapping me back to reality. I had already forgotten he was here.
I frowned. “Would you please leave me alone? I’m really bothered by the way you’re following me.”
He ignored my words.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked.
I’m about to swim. People swim in bikinis? Or am I still not allow to be naked here?”
He let go of me. raising his arms in surrender. I pulled the dress over my head, revealing a red, body hugging swimsuit i had asked Max to pack,
1 slipped into the water, feeling calm and collected as the peace of the moment washed over me.
He watched me for a while, and I noticed his lingering gaze.
“Why? Do you want to join in?” I asked.
“That’s a very weird question,” he replied.
“I’m not asking you to swim with me. I’m saying you should swim. It’s nice.”
I splashed a little water in his direction, and he easily dodged it. His face remained expressionless, holding back whatever emotions he might have had as he watched my every move.
“No, thanks,” he said, sitting cross–legged on the sand.
“Okay, that’s on you, but you’re missing so much peace right now,” I said.
“You don’t even know what’s in those waters,” he replied.
“Well, I don’t see any signs saying ‘do not swim,” I shrugged, ‘so I’m going to take my chances while I can.”
“You’re insufferable, he muttered.
I leaned back, letting my hair sink completely into the water. I let out another sigh of relief. “This is just beyond beautiful. You really should try it.”
“I don’t want to,” he said, pausing briefly, “but it wouldn’t hurt.”
He walked into the water.
“Don’t be such a weirdo. Swim properly,” I said with a smirk.

My eyes wandered to his muscular body, and 1 didn’t realize how long I’d been looking until his voice broke the silence.
“My eyes are up here,” he said.
I quickly looked away, embarrassed, and splashed some water on him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked, his tone half–amused.
I didn’t reply, but my gaze inadvertently shifted to the scar on his back. I hated that he had gotten that for me. My hand moved instinctively toward it, but he stopped me before I could touch it, his hand catching mine mid–air.
1 flinched from how sudden it was and looked into his eyes.
“If I were you.” he shook his head, whispering, “I wouldn’t touch me right now.”
1 furrowed my eyebrows, “huh?”
“Leah, you’re in a swimsuit, half your ass cheeks are out, I can see your nipples through that material,” his voice was suddenly lowered.
My eyes shot wide, I was taken completely aback, his words far from what I was expecting.
“What the I blurted out.
Im not made of wood,” he shook his head, his eyes briefly glancing down at the hem of his pants, “if you touch me,” he stepped closer, and I felt something hard brush against my thighs, he leaned in so he could whisper directly in my ears, Tm not sure I’d be able to control myself for much longer.”
