Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I’m the world’s greatest hypnotist.
I can erase memories through hypnosis.
But after my heart transplant, I rarely drained myself performing hypnosis–until I got pregnant.
I hypnotized my boyfriend, Ryan Hale, and finally asked the question that had haunted me for three
years:
“We’ve been together so long, but you never talk about marrying me. Why?”
Under pure instinct, his eyes revealed an emotion I had never seen before–disgust.
“If it weren’t for Lillian’s heart beating inside you, I wouldn’t have even looked at you.”
“Marriage? Keep dreaming.”
A heart that didn’t belong to me ached inside my chest.
My phone rang, pulling me out of my hypnosis session.
Ryan blinked, coming back to his senses.
“What just happened?”
I forced myself to stay calm.
“Nothing. You must be tired, a little out of it.”
He didn’t know I was the best hypnotist in the world, and right now, he was easy to fool.
He mumbled, “Maybe.”
Then he answered his phone.
I was close enough to hear the delicate, almost fragile voice on the other end.
“Ryan, my cramps are killing me.”
“Can you come over and keep me company?”
Lillian’s twin sister, Olivia Carter.

Ryan glanced at me, hesitating.
Then Olivia spoke again, her voice trembling.
“Lillian’s death anniversary is in two days. I miss her so much.”
“If she were here, she’d take care of me.”
A soft sob came through the line.
Ryan didn’t hesitate this time. “T’ll be right there.”
I let out a cold laugh.
“Do you even know what today is?” I asked.
His expression shifted, guilt flickering across his face before he reached out to hold me.
“Mia, I’m sorry. I can’t celebrate your birthday tonight.”
“Lillian died saving me–I have to take care of her only sister.”
I stepped back, pressing a hand against my stomach as frustration and pain twisted inside me.
“Ryan, Olivia has other friends. Why does it have to be you?”
“Because I’m a doctor. I know how to take care of people.”
His excuse made my stomach ache even more.
I clutched it tighter, trying to ease the pain.
And then–he scoffed.
“Mia, stop pretending. You’re not on your period today.”
“Don’t fake it just because Olivia has cramps.”
I laughed at myself.
So that’s what he thought.
Tears slipped down my cheeks. And just like that, so did my child.
Ryan reached out to wipe my tears, his patience wearing thin.

Chapter 1
“Mia, I’ll be back soon. Why are you being so unreasonable today?”
Three years together, and I had lost count of how many times he had broken his promises to me.
Every single one of his vows meant nothing compared to one call from his dead soulmate’s sister.
And somehow, I was the unreasonable one.
I couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Ryan, if Olivia means so much to you, why don’t you just date her?”
“Live with her? Wouldn’t that make it easier to take care of her?”
His expression darkened instantly,
“Mia Lawson, what the hell are you saying? Olivia is like a sister to me. That’s all.”
I took a deep breath and asked the one question I was scared to hear the answer to.
“Do you even love me?”
Ryan avoided my gaze.
Then, he leaned in–pressing his ear against my chest.
Right where Lillian’s heart was beating.
After a moment, he whispered, “I love you.”
That was all I needed to hear to let go completely.
I gently pushed him away. “Go. Don’t keep Olivia waiting.”
And just like that, he left–without hesitation.
I watched him rush off.
Then, I picked up my phone, booked an appointment for an abortion, and drove straight to the hospital.
Harbor City Medical Center.
The place where I met Ryan.
Three years ago, I was hospitalized here alone, battling a heart condition.

Chapter 1
Ryan was my surgeon.
He took care of me so tenderly, so thoroughly, that I fell for him–hard.
Back then, when I saw how much he looked after Olivia, I thought he was just a good man, loyal and
kind.
But now that I knew the truth–that I was just a replacement–everything had changed.
“Mia, are you sure about this?”
One of Ryan’s colleagues gave me a concerned look.
“Does Dr. Hale know?”
I hesitated.
The baby was innocent, after all.
