Chapter 4, Goodbye, Matt
The emptiness of the room became my companion, joining me in the suffocating overthinking.
I glanced at the entrance when I heard someone open it. Hannah, the woman, walked in with a haughty stride./
I squinted my eyes, wondering why Hannah dared to look at me with such an arrogant attitude.%
“Hi, Kate,” Hannah said, ruffling her hair as she sat in a chair. She smiled slyly and stroked her belly.
“I’m pregnant. Your husband’s child,” she added without hesitation.#
I didn’t react because I already knew. What shocked me was her audacity to come to me.%
“My pregnancy is progressing, and this child will be born soon, but unfortunately, you miscarried, And… you know what that means, right?” Her contrived expression really made me want to slap her.
“How long have you been together?” I chose to change the subject instead of replying to her. I desperately held myself back from cursing her out.#
“It’s been two years. We met at a bar before Matt recruited me as a brand ambassador”
As an up–and–coming model, Hannah shouldn’t have had the audacity to confront me as the legal wife. What if I decided to expose her behavior and get her banned from the public?
She’s very stupid, but I also didn’t want to waste time taking revenge on a toxic woman like her.%
Trying my best to hold back the tears, I finally burst into sobs. I recalled the memories of the past two years with Matt, thinking that We were still doing well. Matt still loved me very much. In fact, when he found out I was pregnant, he prepared everything related to the baby as soon as possible. Matt was so happy and always took such good care of me and the baby.%
And then, I realized even more–Matt was good at acting.”
“Now your position is threatened. You’re having trouble getting pregnant. And when you finally do, you miscarry, I think it’s going to take a lot more effort if you want to have a child. Or even… impossible?” Hannah’s words were meant to break me mentally. I didn’t know where she found the courage to come up to me and berate me like this.
I smiled sadly. Crying for too long would only make her more arrogant. I didn’t want to look weak in front of Hannah.
“You’re lucky to be pregnant. You should be grateful, even if you got your child in the wrong way!”
Hannah immediately glared at me and snapped, “Your husband wants it too! Do you think I’m chasing after him because I’m pregnant? No, he didn’t. He even begged me for offspring!”
I was left speechless. Hannah’s words really stabbed me, Was it possible that Matt was tired of waiting for me and had asked another woman to give him a child?
“And you should know, Matt’s assets should be titled to me and my son, not you! Because this child will be the heir to the Christopher family.” Hannah folded her arms across her chest in an arrogant manner, as if power were on her side just because she had a baby in her womb to shield.
My chest tightened in pain, and I could hardly breathe.
While Hannah babbled on, uncaring about my feelings, she added, “One more thing you should know, Matt wasn’t away for work when you miscarried. He was spending time with me. He was taking me out for fun and indulging my every whim.”
Hannah took a breath and continued, “And after I saw you earlier, Matt immediately followed me to the hotel to have fun, Seriously, your husband is amazing!”
I twisted my fingers. Although I had expected it, I couldn’t bear to hear it all come from Hannah’s mouth.
How could Matt have the heart to have fun with Hannah while I was risking my life? I lost so much blood and was in so much pain by myself.
Hannah stood up instantly, giving me a disgusted look while shaking her head. “You’re so pathetic.”
“Go away!” I shouted, shooing her away before my patience ran out.
“I’ll leave after you know one important thing. Matt and I are getting married tomorrow. Come, and we’ll have a great time!“%
Instantly, my chest tightened. My vision blurred, and the room seemed to narrow, Hannah burst out laughing before I finally lost
consciousness.
When I came to, I checked the clock on my phone. It wasn’t too late. I quickly escaped from the hospital and went home to pack my things.
I left for abroad, leaving the divorce papers on the table beforehand. I looked at my hometown from above the clouds, tears streaming down my face. I deleted and blocked all access to Matt from me.l
