The moment I walked out the door, even the air felt free.
I wandered aimlessly with my suitcase until I passed a young couple. The girl seemed to have an injured leg, but her face was filled with longing. “I really want to see the Northern Lights in Iceland,” she said.
The boy carefully supported her, his expression doting. “Once you’re better, we’ll go.”
The girl excitedly kissed the boy, chattering nonstop with joy.
“Ma’am, are you okay?” A stranger asked with concern.
I wiped the wetness from my cheeks, only then realizing I had been crying. I waved my
hand and sighed deeply. “I’m fine.”
That evening, I booked a flight to Iceland.
The decision might have been hasty, but seeing the Northern Lights wasn’t a
spontaneous idea. I had suggested it to Liam Johnson after we got married, but he always said we would go when we had time. Until I became pregnant with Noah Johnson, I stopped mentioning the Northern Lights, and he seemed relieved, as if a burden had been
lifted.
Before boarding, I received a message from Liam Johnson: “Emma Smith, aren’t you taking any of your stuff?”
I chose to delete and block him.
The Northern Lights in Iceland were spectacular and ever–changing. What should have
been undisturbed days were interrupted when I went out one day and saw Liam Johnson
from a distance with Ava Williams.
They shared a scarf, their hands brazenly tucked into each other’s pockets. Liam
Johnson cupped Ava Williams‘ ear in his palm.
A person who appeared to be a video blogger asked them, “Hello, you two look so in love.

Ava Williams hesitated, “Actually, we’re not a couple.”

Liam Johnson’s expression visibly changed. The atmosphere turned awkward, but Ava Williams quickly smiled sweetly again. “We just made a promise to come see the Northern Lights with the most important person in our lives.”
The blogger understood and probed Liam Johnson curiously, “Then do you like her?”
Ava Williams didn’t seem to mind, but her clenched hands betrayed her.
A rare tenderness appeared on Liam Johnson’s face. “I do,” he stated firmly, like a vow.
Ava Williams blushed shyly, not daring to look at the person beside her.
The blogger, however, seemed touched. “How beautiful!”
He took a bouquet of roses from his car, handing it to Liam Johnson. “I was going to give these to a friend, but why don’t you propose to her right now?”
Liam Johnson held the bouquet, looking a bit awkward. The strands of hair above his forehead swayed in the wind, framing his gentle features beneath the golden glasses.
One second, two seconds, three seconds.
He solemnly bent down on one knee, offering the bouquet to Ava Williams.
Ava Williams immediately teared up and quickly accepted the flowers.
From the outside, they looked like a perfect match.
The blogger dutifully recorded this beautiful scene.
Coincidentally, the sky displayed a rare and vibrant display of colors shifting and changing.
It made them look radiant and romantic.
It also allowed me to witness everything.
