Chapter 7
“Amaris, we already agreed–this is a partnership. Just a partnership for a while Ourie said, his tone firm and pointed. He needed to make sure she got the message loud and clear. No misunderstandings, no daydreaming.
“For a while and how long is a while?“Amaris asked. Pretending to stutter every single day wasn’t exactly her idea of fun, and she deserved a deadline.
Ouric’s chest tightened slightly at her persistence. “Not long”
“Not long” That’s not an answer. How long exactly?
The silence stretched between them, and Amaris’s patience started to fray. Finally, he muttered, almost begrudgingly, “Let’s say a month
“Alriglu.“Amaris gave a small nod. One month–she could deal with that, Barely. Then you’d better keep your word.”
She stepped forward and extended her hand, palm up, like she was offering to shake on some kind of sacred pact. Her slim lingers were perfectly shaped, her pale, smooth skin almost impossibly flawless, like something out of a painting
Behind her glasses, her eyes gleamed with quiet determination, full of expectation as if daring him to back down
Ouric’s gaze lingered on her for a moment before his lips curled into a teasing smirk. “What’s this? Trying to sneak a chance to hold my hand?” Amaris froze. Her hand jerked back as if she’d touched a hot stove, and she cursed herself silently for being so careless.
Seeing her flustered, Oric’s amusement only deepened. His smirk turned wicked, his gaze sharp with mischief.
He reached out and tied her chin up with two fingers, forcing her to meet his eyes. “Listen, don’t play games month. No matter what you try, Ed never fall for someone like you.”
is with me. One month means one
The faint scent of pinewood lingered on his skin, subtle but maddeningly alluring. It brushed past her nose, stirring something inexplicabile, though Amaris wasn’t about to let that distract her.
All she could focus ons was his infuriating smirk and his unbearably arrogant tone,
“Right back at you, she retorted coldly.
She turned her head sharply, swatting his hand away or at least, she tried to. But he let go on his own, leaving her glaring after him as he walked
off, smug as ever.
As he climbed the stairs, Osrie spoke over his shoulder, his tone casual but pointed. “Your sister was right about one thing–women should get out more. Broaden their horizons. Keeps them from dreaming up ridiculous, unrealistic fantasies
*Starting tomorrow, I’ll arrange for you to work as an assistant at one of Hale Group’s branches. Time to learn how the real world works.”
One month. That was all he needed to keep her out of his way. Out of sight, out of mind. If Fenella wanted to see her, a quick phone call would do. Honestly, he thought he was being more than generous with this arrangement.
But just as he took another step, her steady voice stopped him cold. “No need to arrange anything. 1. I’ll find a job myself
He froze, turning halfway toward her, his brow arching in disbelief. “Do you have any idea how high
high Hale Group’s hiring standards are!”
Hale Group wasn’t some second–rate company. Even a position as an assistant was reserved for top–tier graduates from the best universities.
I really don’t need your help, Amaris repeated, her voice calm but firm. I can do it on my own
Her stubbornness caught him off guard. For a second, he couldn’t think of a response. Then, with a loud bang, a door upstairs slammed shut so hard it sent vibrations through the house, making her ears ring.
“Seriously? That temper, she thought, wincing slightly,
The next morning, as the first light of dawn crept into the house, Oric woke up slowly, assuming she was still asleep, probably buried in some ridiculous dream about her so–called career.
But by the time he finished his breakfast and prepared for his busy day, there was still no sign of her. His brows knit together, a flicker of irritation and curiosity Laubbling beneath the surface.

Chapter 7
At the door, as a servant handed him his coat, he ordered offhandedly, “Go wake Ms. Wynn.”
He added silently. It’s late enough–unless she’s still lying in bed, dreaming up her imaginary job!
The servant hesitated, her expression briefly flashing with surprise before she spoke. “Mr. Hale, Miss Wynn left early this morning. She said she was going out to look for work.”
“Left” “To find a job?”
His tone was sharp, clearly not expecting that answer
“Yes, sir. Miss Wynn, though dressed simply, had a determined air about her. And, well, if I may, she’s actually quite striking. There’s a quiet confidence about her, something. refreshing” the servant added with a faint smile, clearly impressed by Amaris’s attitude.
Confident Striking! No way! Ovric thought.
His expression darkened instantly, his voice dropping to a cold, biting tone. “Let her go. Let her experience failure firsthand. A few rejections will teach her exactly where she stands
She’d outright refused the position he’d gone out of has way to arrange Insulting didn’t even begin to cover it. Osric figured three days–maybe less. That was all it would take before she came crawling back, humbled, desperate, and kicking herself for tossing away an opportunity like that
