Do My Dear Ex Harland
Lionel was taken aback, then asked, “Did you tell Kayla about us?”
This was the second time he had asked and seeing Stephanie’s nervous reaction, he knew something was off. “Why would you tell her?!”
In a second, his calmness vanished and he started flipping things off the table, his voice sharp. “Are you insane? No wonder she’s been acting like this. It’s all because of you!”
Stephanie shrank back, trembling as Lionel lost his cool.
“How could you be so stupid? You’re not even half the person your sister is!” he shouted.
Hearing him praise Kayla like that, Stephanie snapped. “What do you mean? How am I not better than her?” Lionel’s fiery gaze silenced her instantly. She didn’t dare to speak. The next thing she knew, his fist slammed into the wall with a sickening crack, turning it red instantly.
She stood frozen in fear, but kept quiet. “You need to think before you speak next time,” he warned.
After that, Kayla didn’t come to see him in the hospital. Instead, she had flowers sent, just to keep up the act.
When Lionel came home, Kayla didn’t seem surprised at all. But when Lionel saw her, his face broke into a smile. “Kayla, I’m back.”
Just two days and he was good as new. The doctor Kayla had found worked wonders–no scar, no sign of the
injury.
Kayla just nodded, her voice soft. “Yeah,” she said.
Kayla wasn’t paying any attention to any of them. They had only four days left before they were completely out of her life. As long as everything ended the way she wanted, the wait didn’t bother her.
Before she could even respond, Lionel spoke up. “I heard the board’s planning a welcome party for you. I got you a dress for it. I think it’ll suit you perfectly.”
Kayla barely glanced at it. Since she had taken all the property back, Lionel was left with nothing. It seemed like he’d spent his last bit of money on this, hoping it would make a difference.
She looked at him for a moment, remembering when he had had nothing and promised her the best life. Now
here he was
Kayla stood there for a second, not even bothering to open the dress. “Okay, just leave it on the table.”
When Lionel left, he had a satisfied look on his face, thinking he had done something good. But Kayla had other plans. She put the dress outside Stephanie’s room.
It was meant for someone who truly deserved it.
The board was making a big deal out of the party. It was full of influential people–big names in business. The idea was to introduce Kayla to the current trends and give her some face.
On party night, Lionel showed up in a custom suit.
Kayla gave him a quick look. He was trying too hard. He wasn’t even invited, but here he was, showing up
anyway.
