“Kayla, what do you think of my dress? Does it look good on me? You can’t go to the party without your plus one, right?” Lionel asked.
After everything that went down, she needed someone to help her keep up appearances. So, she simply replied,
“Get in the car.”
When they arrived at the party, she saw how far these directors were willing to go. They rented out an entire
castle for her.
It felt like home, like she was back where she belonged. No more needing to please anyone–now, they were the ones trying to get her attention.
Lionel stuck to her like glue and the compliments kept rolling in.
Goudway My Deol Ly Husband
“Your husband treats you so well, Mrs. Sutton.”
But Lionel went above and beyond. If her shoes were even slightly dirty, he would kneel down to clean them, saying she was the star of the evening.
When the waiter offered them drinks, Lionel would taste the wine first, then tell everyone Kayla couldn’t have
anything too sweet or strong.
He blocked the wine for her like it was some big gesture and Kayla couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
It didn’t matter if he wanted to hear the compliments or just wanted others to say them. She was getting bored of
the act
“Enough! Stop pretending for everyone. Aren’t you tired of this?” Kayla snapped, losing patience.
His smile faded and he froze in place, clearly surprised. “Kayla, I’m not pretending. Everything I do, everything! feel–it’s real. Just like when I wanted to marry you.”
ka laughed, but it felt hollow. There was a trace of tears in her eves as she realized how long she had been
the dark, fooled by their lies. All that talk about forever felt empty now
It was pathetic–he had no business bringing up the past
“You’re disgusting” she said and her words hit him like a punch. It stung more than he expected.
“I know about you and Stephanie, so stop pretending,” Kayla added. “You’re just using me for something.”
Lionel’s face went red and he reached for her hand, but she quickly pulled it away.
“No, Kayla, listen to me,” he said, his voice desperate. “I really love you. What happened with Stephanie, it’s a misunderstanding. The only person I love is you…”
Kayla let out a bitter laugh. “Isn’t that what you told Stephanie too? Seems like you love a lot of people.”
Lionel froze. He hadn’t expected her to know so much. “She’s just a fill–in. I only love you. Do you believe me?”
She sat there, watching him, letting him squirm. Then, unexpectedly, she asked, “So, you think she’s better? Or
am I better? Is she prettier, or am I?”
Lionel blinked. Kayla never asked questions like that. She didn’t care about comparing herself.
But he answered anyway, “Of course, you’re better. You’re graceful, classy… She’s nothing like you. You were the best–looking at school. No one could compare.”
Right as he finished, a loud voice came from behind him. “What the hell are you talking about, Lionel?!”
