Chapter 10

“Did you really think he was waiting for you?” She heard Lily ask

Zabelle couldn’t believe what she was staring at. Denial hit her, and she didn’t want to accept that Jeremy had betrayed her. There was no way he would do that. He was her Jeremy, he loved her, and he would never cheat on her, especially with her sister.

However, as she tried to further deny it, the truth couldn’t be clearer than daylight. Her hand zeroed in on Jeremy’s hand, which was wrapped around Vanessa’s waist, and she blinked back to stop the tears from falling.

She turned to look at her mother, who was looking at Jeremy and her sister with a smile on her face. Her family knew of her relationship with Jeremy, and so she realized that they had all been playing her like a fool.

Zabelle opened her mouth to speak, but she decided against it as it wasn’t worth it. She needed to sit down so she could process what she had just seen. Scanning the room for the nearest seat she could find, she walked up to it and slumped into the chair.

Her phone vibrated and when she brought it out from her purse, she saw that Vanessa had posted, and it was a picture of her and Jeremy with a romantic caption she didn’t bother to finish reading. Her sister had tagged Jeremy, which was the only reason why she had even received the notification. As expected, netizens started buzzing about how good they looked as a couple, and it broke her.

She immediately dropped her phone so it wouldn’t make her cry. Her thoughts immediately took over, and she wondered. for how long it had been going on. Had it always been going on even before Jeremy left the country? Why?

These thoughts kept on eating deep into her, and before she knew it, time had gone by and people started leaving the party. Seeing that the crowd had dissipated, with only the workers remaining, she got up from her seat and started to make her way over to where Jeremy was. However, halfway through, her father obstructed her.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Gabriel asked as he glared at his daughter.

“I want to speak to Jeremy. After all, I haven’t personally welcomed him back,” she responded in the same tone her father had spoken to her.

“Go home and don’t cause a scene,” Gabriel warned her, and this made Zabelle chuckle.

“Tell me, dad, why do you think I would cause a scene?” she threw the question. If all was well between her and Jeremy, he wouldn’t be scared of her causing a scene. All of them knew very well what they had done to her, and it disgusted her to know that these very people were her family.

“Don’t make me get the guards.”

“Do it and I swear, there’s going to be a scandal of how you ordered your own daughter out of the party,” Zabelle threatened before walking around him to get Jeremy.

“Good evening, Jeremy,” she greeted when she finally got to where he was. This was her first time speaking to him in two years, and it didn’t go the way she had envisioned it to go.

“Zabelle,” Jeremy called, and a smile appeared on his face. Beside him was Vanessa, who had refused to leave his side all night.

“How have you been, Jeremy?” She asked in a calm tone, one that shocked even herself, as she definitely wasn’t calm inside.

“I’ve been fine and how have you been?” The way he was speaking to her was the way one would speak to a stranger or someone they were trying to get rid of.

but I could be better,” she finally addressed the topic they were both dancing around.

“You must be delusional,” Vanessa was the one who gave a reply

“If I wanted to hear you speak, darling, I would have spoken to you,” Zabelle chided. “Why not go look for the next man you’ll leave this one for.”

“How dare…” Vanessa started, but Jeremy held her back.

“Zabelle, you’re crossing your limits,” He frowned in disapproval, and she offered him an innocent smile as though she didn’t understand what he was talking about.

“I am? My apology for that,” she scoffed. “Well of course, asking me to wait for you, then ghosting me for two years and getting together with this bitch isn’t you crossing your limits.”

Vanessa immediately moved to slap her, but she held her hand and gave her a slap of her own.

“Zabelle!” she heard someone yell her name. That person was none other than her mother, who was now rushing to the aid of her beloved daughter.

“You? What are you doing here?” Jeremy’s mother asked her. The woman had never liked her, and so she didn’t expect anything from her.

“Tell me something, Jeremy, for how long?” She asked curiously.

“How about I do you one better, you were only a bet. One to see if I could get into your pants and I won that bet,” she heard Jeremy say to her and the tears she had been trying so hard not to shed, streamed down her cheeks.

“So none of it was ever real?” She further probed, wanting all of her doubts to be cleared.

“Did you really think that I would fall for someone like you?” He scoffed. “You’re plain and boring, plus you’re ugly.”

“Not as ugly as everyone here,” Zabelle retorted, refusing to let Jeremy break her further. She hissed when she felt someone harshly grabbed her arm, and before she could process what was happening, she felt a sharp sting on her face.

Her head flew to the side with how hard she had been slapped. “I told you not to cause a scene, girl,” her father growled in anger as he slapped her once more.

“I thought I made it clear that I wasn’t going to cause one,” she clapped back as she yanked her hand away from his own. “But since you keep on clamouring on me causing one, how about I listen to you, dear father.”

Before any of the people standing there could understand what she meant, she punched Jeremy as hard as she could. Her knuckles hurt, but it was worth it when she saw him writhing in pain. She heard his mother yell, and she smiled at the scene.
