Chapter 90
Antonio quickly averted his gaze, though his reaction was slower than she would have liked. In fact, it took him a lot of effort to look away.
“Zabelle, calm down,” he said, his voice still rough with sleep.
“Calm down?!” she shrieked, her hands flailing as she searched the room for anything to cover herself. “I’m naked, Antonio! Completely naked!”
He stood up from the bed, now fully awake, and grabbed the blanket, tossing it toward her.
“Here,” he said.
She caught the blanket and wrapped it around herself. When she was done she turned to glare at him “What the hell happened last night?”
Antonio’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening. “You don’t remember?”
“Remember what?” she snapped, her voice cracking.
“I woke up with a splitting headache and vomited my guts out,” She stated.
Antonio sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as he didn’t know how to examine what had happened to Zabelle.
What was the last thing you remember?” Antonio decided to start from there.
Zabelle frowned as she ran her finger through her hair roughly as she thought back to the last thing she remembered. “I think I remember you driving me home, nothing more after that,” she told him.
“You didn’t stop drinking when we got home as you grabbed a bottle of alcohol from the private bar. I warned you not to drink,” Antonio eyed Zabelle.
Her face flushed with embarrassment, though the anger and the confusion remained. “That doesn’t explain why I’m naked, Antonio! The pain she was feeling in her nether region was giving her a guess as to what had happened, but she didn’t wang to believe it was true, hence the reason why she was asking Antonio, as she wanted him to prove her wrong.
Antonio hesitated, his gaze dropping momentarily before he met her eyes again. “We slept together,” he said bluntly, getting it over with
Zabelle froze, her blood running cold as he confirmed that her guess was right. No, it couldn’t be, she told herself.
“We what?”
“We slept together,” Antonio sighed. “You were drunk and I wasn’t exactly in my right mind, thanks to the drug Vanessa gave me,” he explained.
“Vanessa…” Zabelle frowned. Her mind was still hazy, hence she hadn’t had the time to ponder on what had happened between Antonio and her sister the previous night.
-Antonio nodded grimly. “She drugged me with something. An aphrodisiac. The doctor said it would increase my sex urges.”
Zabelle’s hands tightened around the blanket as she processed his words
Hu jaw clenched, when he saw her looking at him skeptically and he stepped closer, his eyes locking onto hers.
“I’m not blaming my actions entirely on the drug, Zabelle. But you need to understand that last night wasn’t- He paused,

searching for the right words, “It wasn’t normal. For either of us
“I need a moment,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Antonio nodded, his expression changing into one of understanding. “Take your time,” he said, stepping back and giving her
space.
Zabelle’s mind was a whirlwind of emotions–confusion, shame, anger, and a flicker of something she couldn’t quite name.
Meanwhile, Antonio watched her quietly, his own thoughts just chaotic. When he said he couldn’t blame his action entirely on the drug, he wasn’t joking
Unlike the previous night, he wasn’t under the influence of it any longer and he still wanted to get intimate with Zabelle. This wasn’t even about satisfying his needs but the urge to get closer to her and to hear her moan and her soft whimpers.
It was increasingly hard to get Zabelle out of his mind as she invaded every corner of it, this time in a good way and not to take revenge.
What was happening to him?!
Zabelle’s mind replayed Antonio’s words on a loop, the weight of the situation pressing down harder with every passing second.
She and Antonio had slept together! She didn’t even know how to feel. Wasn’t she supposed to be angry, to be disgusted? Then why didn’t she feel those things?
I’m sorry,” she heard Antonio say, finally breaking the silence.
Zabelle sighed and she shook her head. “Sorry doesn’t undo anything, Antonio. It doesn’t give me back my memories of last night nor does it change the fact that we…” She found herself unable to complete her words.
“You’re right. It doesn’t. But I need you to understand-“He paused, taking a step closer. “I didn’t want this to happen, Zabelle. Not like this.”
It took a few seconds for the words to register in her head, and then she turned to face him, her expression a mix of anger and vulnerability.
“Then why didn’t you stop it?” she demanded. “You’re the one who’s always in control, Antonio. The one who never loses his head. So why didn’t you stop me–or yourself?”
Antonio’s jaw tightened as Zabelle was right. One of his qualities was the ability to remain in control no matter the situation, but last night didn’t reflect that.
“Because I couldn’t.” he said in a whisper.
I
That drug Vanessa slipped me… it wasn’t just some mild aphrodisiac. It stripped away every ounce of restraint I had swear I tried to control myself but when you stripped, it broke the last ounce of my self–control”
“I stripped? Zabelle’s mouth dropped wide open.
“Yes, you did, and you asked me to sleep with you because you thought I went to Vanessa due to you not fulfilling your duty as my wife,” Antonio summarized all that transpired between them the previous night,
“But it doesn’t excuse the fact that I didn’t fight harder, and I know that.”
Zabelle tightened the blanket around herself, her heart pounding as she tried to remember what Antonio had said. Even though he was the devil in human form, Antonio hardly lied.
“Vanessa drugged you,” she finally paid attention to that piece of news. “I can’t believe she did that to you.”

Antonio’s expression darkened at the mention of Vanessa “Shepay for what she’s done,” he said, his tone ice–cold as his head came up with a couple of revenge plans “But right now, my priority is you and making you see that I didn’t cheat on you and I would never”
Now that she wasn’t blinded by hurt or drunk, her rational sense of reasoning returned, and she believed Antonio when he said he didn’t cheat on her.
How could she have forgotten that he had kidnapped
for her sake and had refused to let her go. Antonio had always
stood up for her even though he hated her, and for her to think that he would ever cheat on her was a big slap to his actions.
“I swear Vanessa kissed
me and the moment she did. I pushed her off me.” His voice softened. “And I don’t want you to carry the blame for something that wasn’t your fault like you did yesterday.”
She stared deep into Antonio’s eyes, and she saw regret, and anger. She swallowed hard as she was hit with a wave of guilt over her lack of trust in Antonio.
“I need to take a bath as I feel sticky,” she said in a bid to break the tension and get herself alone.
Antonio stepped back, giving her room. “Okay, I’ll go see if Martha has prepared something for your hangover.
Zabelle nodded, and she began to drag herself into the bathroom. However, despite the shame she felt, she couldn’t deny the faint spark of something deeper, something more dangerous igniting between them, and it made her toes curl
As the door to the bathroom closed behind her, Antonio exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. She wasn’t as mad as the previous night, and that was a good sign
