Chapter 5
The assistant turned pale and hurried off to investigate.
As soon as he left, Tatum approached, still as gentle and delicate as ever.
She lightly held onto Dylan’s arm.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen to Junie? I knew she’d be upset about me attending the wedding on her but
“But today is such an important day for the Owen family. All the company executions are here, and the elders too, fo matter how angry the b, the shouldn’t have chosen now to act out! And lying about a plane crash she’s ton immature”
“Dylan, you spoil her too much. I know Junie–she has no friends here, she’ll come back once she calms down, Don’t worry, your parents are making for you to continue the toasts.”
In the past, Dylan might have believed her.
He might have chosen to wait for me to return and apologize,
But this time, he recalled my uncharacteristic attitude,
The emotions surging within him refused to settle,
After a long silence, he pushed Tatum’s hand away, his expression turning cold.
“Tatum, let me remind you one last time—you were only standing in for Junie at the wedding. Junie is my rightful wife. And my parents are not yours to address so intimately!”
A flash of resentment flickered through Tatum’s eyes.
Before she could speak, a small figure ran up to them.
A little girl grabbed Dylan’s pant leg and shook it.
“Daddy, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa are calling you over!”
“Let’s ignore that bad woman, okay? I want to see Mommy and Daddy together!”
The words “bad woman” made Dylan’s expression turn even colder.
He fixed his gaze on Tatum.
“Did you teach her that?”
“Tatum, she’s just a child. What are you teaching her?”
“If you can’t raise her properly, I’ll have my parents take over. You won’t have a say anymore!”
Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked into the hall.
The news of the plane crash still shone on his phone screen.
As he walked, he overheard guests whispering.
“I heard Miss Lee was just standing in. President Owen wouldn’t actually fall for that cripple from the Lawrance family, would he?”
“Impossible. The Lawrance family moved abroad years ago. Junie has no relatives here. Marrying her was just a strategy–this whole wedding is proof! It’s so grand–he must’ve planned this long ago.”
“Poor Miss Lawrance. After the accident, she’s disabled and can’t even have children. Her life is ruined…”
Every word made Dylan’s face darken further.

How could this happen?
After the accident, he had made sure that everyone kept quiet about Janie’s condition.
The perpetrator certainly wouldn’t have spoken out.
As long as the wedding went on as planned, Junie would legally become his wife.
He would live with her.
Raise Hope together.
He would protect Junie, ensuring that no one looked down on her because of her injuries.
But why had the news leaked?
He hadn’t seen Juniein the past two days–what had happened during that time?
Had people insulted her to her face?
Had she been bullied?
The questions gnawed at him, pressing down on his chest so hard that he could barely breathe.
When his parents saw him return, they both sighed in relief.
But their words delivered a fatal blow.
“Dylan, since Junieis already crippled, let Tatum take her place.”
“She’s a useless invalid anyway. Keeping her around is nothing but bad luck.”
“Pick a date and register the marriage. It’s been too long since the Owen family had such a joyous occasion. Once the wedding is over, I’ll have the servants clean out Junie’s room and set it up as your matrimonial home!”
Dylan stood frozen in place, staring at the delighted expressions on his parents‘ faces.
For the first time, a wave of disgust surged through him.
“Register the marriage? Didn’t Tatum already get married abroad?”
Dylan’s mother shot him a glance and let out a laugh.
“You really believed that?”
“It was just a lie to fool you.”
“She only did it so Hope could enter the family. Tatum was willing to ruin her reputation for the child’s sake. If you insist on clinging to Junie, we have no choice.”
“That cripple is gone now anyway, so Tatum doesn’t have to keep up the act anymore. From now on, you’re a family. She went abroad because she had no other choice–we won’t blame her anymore.”
The words shattered what little sanity Dylan had left.
His parents‘ smug faces stabbed deep into his heart.
He thought back to the questions he had asked Tatum over the past few days.
Every time he mentioned her husband overseas, she would always dodge the topic.
She had never once explained how they met.
And her social media had no trace of her supposed husband.
How foolish he had been.

He had only now uncovered the truth beneath her lies.
And in his blind efforts to bring Hope home, he had caused the death of his fiancée…
Junie had no family or friends in this country.
