Chapter 10. The Beginning of Us
I felt completely lost. Everything happened so fast until Nick collapsed in front of me. Now, I was waiting for Nick in an operation that lasted for hours.
I kept pacing, praying non–stop. My heart was shattered. It felt like waiting in the shadow of destruction–between life and death.%
In this case, the police acted swiftly to investigate the crime that had befallen Nick. I already had a suspicion about who the culprit was. And sure enough, it was Matt
Matt was officially arrested after witnesses and CCTV evidence left him no room to deny it. He rebelled and denied it during the trial. He said he wanted to save his relationship with me.”

“Kate, I did it for you! He’s not a good man. I wanted to save you! I regret it!” he pleaded.%
I didn’t respond. Everything felt pointless. There was nothing left to fix because I felt like there was no hope anymore.%
Now, I returned to Nick’s recovery room. Trembling, with mixed emotions. And I found Nick smiling despite his pale face.
“You worry too much, Princess,” Nick said as I sat beside him.
“Of course! You almost died. I couldn’t bear to think of it.”
I squeezed Nick’s hand tightly. Holding it as if I never wanted to lose him. The image of blood pouring from his stomach almost drove me insane.
“It seems like someone doesn’t want to lose me.” Nick gave me a playful look. He was still the same. The silly and annoying Nick.
“You’re joking around even in this condition!” I reflexively slapped his hand–where the IV needle was inserted.”
I screamed in shock when Nick winced. “Eh, sorry!” I said.
Nick just smiled.
I gently stroked his hand again, watching his condition improve. Honestly, I had feared the worst about his state.
It felt strange, like I didn’t want anything bad to happen to Nick. Like I didn’t want to lose him just like that.
What’s happening to me?
“Has everything been resolved?” Nick asked. I knew where this conversation was headed.%
“It’s over, Matt has been punished. I’m sorry, Nick. I never imagined Matt would do something so terrible.” I wiped my suddenly teary
eyes.
“Hey, why are you apologizing? You’re not at fault. You don’t owe him anything,” Nick said, squeezing my fingers in return. Despite his pain, Nick didn’t show any signs of discomfort. He kept giving me his sweet smile.%
“Listen. You don’t have to feel guilty about him-“W
“But you got hurt because of me!” I interrupted, my voice trembling.
“Hey, hey. Look at me! You’re not at fault. You can’t blame yourself for this. Think of this as my sacrifice to win you over. Because love requires sacrifice, right?”
Nick looked at me with such a deep gaze. It was as if he didn’t want to miss a single blink. Once again, my heart felt like it was being doused with ice water.
“I was really afraid you’d die. I couldn’t imagine it,” I said, speaking without hesitation for the first time. It was as if no more walls were blocking me. My doubts about a new person had completely faded.)
“If that’s the case, I should make the most of this second chance.“W
Nick pulled a ring from under the pillow. He handed me a beautiful ring with a precious gem.
“I’ve kept this for a long time. And at that time, I couldn’t find the right moment to give it to you,” Nick continued.”
I was mesmerized. I never expected Nick to be this thoughtful.
“Kate, will you spend the rest of your life with me?“W
I was stunned. Tears once again filled my eyes. It really felt like a dream!!!
“Yes, Nick. A million times, yes!“}
I immediately hugged him. There was no reason to reject someone as good as Nick. This closeness made me realize that Nick wasn’t just a healer for me. I truly believed he was an angel sent by God to accompany me through the long journey ahead.
Not long after Nick’s recovery, I heard bad news about Hannah. She miscarried, and her reputation in the entertainment world was ruined.
She was boycotted from the industry because of her behavior: stealing my husband and proudly displaying her pregnancy from an affair.
Hannah was completely shattered and devastated. There was no money or assets from Matt she could enjoy, as Matt went bankrupt after his company was taken over by the wrong hands.
Now, I stood at the altar with Nick, reciting our vows with deep sincerity and love.”
I never imagined that after the long storm that hit my life, I would now have a good man who made me feel safe and loved without fear
I kissed Nick. Surrounded by many people who blessed our union.
