Chapter 8 My Nina
But I believed that whatever the future held would come
in its own time. Even if love wasn’t meant for me yet, Nina and I could still live happily together.
Before I knew it, Nina was almost one year old. Meanwhile, Anthony’s life wasn’t going so smoothly.
Barbara gave birth to a son, Carl Bartlett.
Sara spoiled this child as if he were the apple of her eye.
Maybe because Barbara was once the mistress, she was extremely insecure about Anthony.
At work, if any woman even spoke to Anthony for a few minutes, Barbara would show up at their office, furious and ready to yell.
She also ruined an important project at Anthony’s company simply because the project manager was a woman, and she had shared a coffee with Anthony in the office.
Choplar & My
Anthony’s company’s reputation plummeted, and over the
past few days, he kept sending me messages from different phone numbers.
He said he missed me.
He missed Nina.
He said Barbara was suffocating him.
He told me that when we divorced, he finally understood how important I was to him.
His feelings for Barbara were just a youthful obsession and resentment.
But by then, I had been hurt too deeply, and it was all too late. He truly regretted it.
Every day after our divorce, he missed me and our daughter terribly.
I didn’t care, and honestly, I found it a bit annoying.
I had Nina’s information transferred to my new place and changed her name to Bonnie Heath.
I wanted my daughter’s life to be a bright light from that point onward.
Barbara thought that having a son would let her continue to act like she was on top, but what she didn’t expect was that her son got into a car accident while out partying and almost bled to death.
When the doctor mentioned his blood type, Anthony realized that Carl might not be his biological son.
Suspicious, Anthony hired someone to look into Barbara’s past overseas.
It turned out that when Barbara was abroad, she was already pregnant with someone else’s child. But that man was married and didn’t want her, so she came back to Anthony to latch onto him instead.
When Sara found out the truth, she fainted on the spot.
With everything exposed, Barbara abandoned her son and ran off with stolen money from Anthony’s company. But on her way to the airport, she got into another car accident and was tragically killed when a
truck ran over her.
Anthony’s company had already been on the verge of collapse because of the trouble Barbara had caused, and now it had gone bankrupt due to lost funds.
When Sara woke up, she couldn’t take it and had a stroke.
All the burden and debt fell on Anthony’s shoulders alone.
Because he failed to repay his debts on time, loan sharks broke his right leg.
The next time I saw Anthony was five years later.
At that time, I was holding Nina’s hand.
Nina was wearing the princess dress I had bought for her, happily telling me about the story her teacher had shared at kindergarten.
But my attention was drawn to a man limping and picking through trash near a dumpster.
Five years had passed, and Anthony seemed to have
