Chapter 4
They were occupying my house.
I went straight to the police station and reported them for illegal entry.
Once we got there, I knocked on the door.
Theo answered.
When he saw it was me, he had that “I knew it” look on his face.
“Hmph, I knew you were lying. Didn’t you say you were getting a divorce? Why are you back then? But you’re in luck. Cece’s hungry. You can cook for her!”
Theo crossed his arms, waiting for me to go to the kitchen.
I stepped aside and then turned to the police behind me. “It’s them. They’re the ones occupying my house.”
The officer nodded and led the way inside.
Chapter 4
Theo, still just a kid, froze when he saw the police in uniform.

Celeste, who had been watching TV, jumped up from the couch.
“Even though you always misunderstand me and Victor, calling the cops is a bit much. Don’t you think? It’s really going to affect Victor.”
The police officer raised an eyebrow and looked at me.
“Is this your family?”
I smiled. “No, she’s my husband’s mistress.”
The officer raised his eyebrows, obviously intrigued.
Celeste’s face paled.
Victor, who had been busy in the kitchen, came out, his voice sharp.
“What are you spouting? I’ve told you so many times. Cece has depression, and I’m just taking care of her. Can’t you stop causing trouble?”

Looking at his obvious irritation, I sighed and opened the door wider so the neighbors who’d gathered outside could hear more clearly.
“Is it really trouble? This house–didn’t my parents buy it for me? Isn’t it my house? You didn’t even give me a heads–up before letting her move in and sleeping in my bed. Where was I supposed to stay? When the fire happened, you saved our son and her cat and just left. Did you ever think I might have died in that fire? Then, after I was saved and spent a month in the hospital, did you even bother to check on me?”
The frustration that had been building up inside me finally exploded. My eyes were red and tears streamed down my face.
I didn’t care about lowering my voice. The neighbors close by could hear everything.
“I thought you had rented this place out,” one of them said.
“Yeah, your husband’s shameless! We saw the three of them acting like a family.”

“So that’s why you look so worn out. I made chicken broth at home today. Wait there. I’ll bring you some.”
I thanked the neighbors, though I didn’t really know them well.
We only exchanged pleasantries when we saw each other.
But from the time I got out of the hospital until now, my husband and son hadn’t shown any concern for me.
It was as if Victor just realized I’d only recently been discharged, and he softened his tone.
“I’m sorry. I was too worried about Cece. I was just in a hurry and didn’t think of you. As for not visiting you in the hospital, I just… I didn’t know how to face you.”
I interrupted him. “You didn’t know how to face me? But you could live with Celeste in MY house, and take care of her just fine? Can you really shift all that guilt onto someone else?”
Victor, clearly caught, was starting to get angry.
Chapter 4
“We’re still married! Cece’s just a friend. She’s staying here temporarily! Can’t you be reasonable? If it bothers you so much, I’ll have her move out of your bedroom. Then you can stay, happy now?”
Before Celeste could say anything, Theo piped up angrily. “Why should Cece leave? She’s used to the big house! She can’t get used to a small room!”
Celeste gave him a grateful look. “Theo, I don’t mind.”
