My phone in my pocket started vibrating non–stop.
Scarlett was getting impatient and began calling to “claim” Hudson Johnson.
[Avery, how long are you going to cling to Hudson?]
[I’m pregnant with Hudson’s child. I suggest you be sensible and leave on your own, or I’ll have to take action.]
I took in Scarlett’s provocative messages, my eyes remaining calm.
The next second, I shoved my phone in front of Hudson Johnson.
“Mr. Johnson, you’d better go back.”
“Otherwise, your wonderful assistant will get anxious.”
I made sure Hudson Johnson read the entire message before casually pocketing my phone.
Hudson Johnson’s eyes narrowed, and his expression darkened.
“Avery, don’t worry. I’ll handle this.”
He hurriedly left, thinking that by dealing with Scarlett, I would forgive him.
He completely missed my indifferent expression.

My phone rang.
I glanced at the caller ID, not hurried at all, placing another piece of meat on Stella’s plate, letting the call go unanswered.
Again and again, Hudson Johnson persistently called.
I made sure, with a hint of sarcasm, that Hudson Johnson finished reading the message before I calmly put my phone away. His eyes narrowed, and his expression quickly darkened.
“Avery, don’t worry. I’ll take care of this,” he reassured me hastily, then rushed off, thinking that dealing with Ye Jin Xuan would earn my forgiveness. He completely overlooked my indifferent demeanor.
Evening arrived, and my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID, took my time feeding Stella a piece of meat, and let the call go to voicemail. Hudson Johnson kept calling persistently. When I didn’t answer, he sent me messages.
“Avery, darling, why aren’t you picking up?”
“Darling? Please, just answer the phone. I’ve already scolded Ye Jin Xuan and made her apologize to you.”
“Darling!”
“Is something wrong? If you don’t answer, I’m calling the police.”
It was only when he threatened to call the police that I slowly answered the phone. His worried voice came through, “Darling, why didn’t you pick up? I was so worried, I almost thought something happened to you.”
His sigh of relief triggered a memory. Six months ago, Hudson Johnson disappeared for a whole week. I called him over and over, sent countless messages, and contacted all our mutual friends, desperate to find him. I was terrified something had happened. I couldn’t sleep and was exhausted, eventually calling the police.
On the thousandth call, Hudson Johnson finally picked up. The moment the line connected, he snapped impatiently, “Avery, are you crazy? Why are you calling me so much?!”

Hearing this, he sneered, “I’m a grown man; what could possibly happen? Stop worrying so much.”
“It’s really annoying!” He hung up, and the police scolded me for wasting resources when we should communicate as a couple.
Later, I saw Ye Jin Xuan’s social media post and realized that during the week I was worried sick, Hudson Johnson had gone to the Maldives with her.
Remembering that, I tightened my grip on the phone and spoke coldly. “What could possibly happen to me? Stop being so childish.”
“Say what you need to say or leave.”
My words seemed to sting Hudson Johnson. He paused, then spoke with a hint of grievance, “Avery, I’m just worried about you.”
“I didn’t expect Ye Jin Xuan to send you such messages. I’ve already scolded her and made her apologize.”
Then, the voice on the other end changed to Ye Jin Xuan, sounding like she was forced, as she tearfully said, “Avery, I’m sorry. I was just too worried about Hudson, and with my pregnancy, my emotions are unstable. I spoke without thinking.” ”
“Sis, you’ve been pregnant before. You must understand me, right?”
Is this what Hudson Johnson calls an apology? To anyone else, it would seem like a provocation.
My eyes turned cold as I spoke calmly, “Hudson Johnson, is this your sincerity?”
Without waiting for his response, I decisively hung up and turned off my phone. Mason Carter handed me a shrimp dumpling. After I ate it, he relayed the news to me.
“The divorce papers you wanted are ready. We can start the process anytime.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything.”
I nodded, giving him a grateful smile, feeling for the first time that I finally had someone to rely on.
In the following days, Hudson Johnson drove around several times to find my new place. Ye Jin Xuan, who was always by his side, didn’t appear in his videos.
When I went out to take out the trash, Hudson Johnson immediately approached, smiling eagerly. I frowned at him.
It was pouring rain today, yet Hudson Johnson didn’t stay in his car. His hair was messy, his white shirt clung to him, and his face was
drenched.
He was foolish for not finding shelter from the rain. I turned away, avoiding his touch, and after throwing out the trash, was about to go back
