Chapter 6
“Lilith!” Tiberius roared, his face twisted with panic as he lunged forward, catching her collapsing form
in one fluid motion.
“Alpha,” she whimpered, tears glistening in her wide eyes, “please don’t blame Giselle. She’s just jealous about my Protected Status… she deliberately tripped me as we walked. I know she didn’t mean to harm the pup… it was just impulse…”
In an instant. Tiberius’s eyes locked onto mine, his pupils constricting to predatory pinpoints, his gaze
murderous,
“How fucking dare you?” he snarled, canines partially extending.
“I fought for Lilith’s Protected Status through proper channels. If you have an issue with that decision, challenge me directly. Why target a pregnant she wolf carrying my bloodline?”
A hollow numbness spread through my chest at the transparent manipulation unfolding before me.
“I never touched her,” I stated flatly.
What difference did it make now? Our mating bond was already severed in spirit, if not yet in law.
Tiberius didn’t even acknowledge my defense, grabbing my wrist with crushing force before violently shoving me backward.
“You’ve become unrecognizable,” he growled. “You were once compassionate and loyal. How did you transform into this bitter, vengeful creature I see before me?”
The power behind his shove sent me slamming against the metal door of my SUV, the impact forcing air from my lungs in a pained gasp. I slid to the ground, waves of agony radiating through my spine and ribs.
Then his offspring–waiting by their vehicle–charged toward me and began their assault with small
claws and teeth.
“You tried to kill my mom!” the boy snarled, his eyes flashing amber despite his youth.
“Mom told us everything about you–the barren she–wolf who kept our dad from his true mate! We couldn’t even live in our home territory because of you!” the little girl shrieked, her partially formed. claws leaving bloody trails across my cheek.
Tiberius observed the attack with cold detachment, making no move to intervene.
Though barely past their first shift ages, these pups attacked with primal instinct, each blow landing with

focused intent, targeting vulnerable points that radiated white hot pain throughout my body.
From behind Tiberius’s protective stance, Lilith’s lips curled into a victorious smile she didn’t bother to
conceal.
Only when blood began streaming freely down my face did Tiberius finally step forward, calling the children back with a sharp command.
“Enough. Come here now. Stay back–she might lash out again.”
The family unit climbed into their black SUV together. Before leaving, Tiberius deliberately circled to my vehicle and delivered a devastating kick that shattered the headlight and crumpled the fender into the
tire.
“Consider this merciful, Giselle. Even if you’ve grown to hate my bloodline, they are still part of Silver
Crescent’s future.”
“If you can’t process that reality right now, fine. Walk back through the storm. The cold might restore your sanity before you return to pack territory.”
They drove away in a spray of gravel, taking with them the entire security detail that had accompanied our diplomatic visit.
I stood alone as the temperature plummeted. Fat snowflakes began falling within minutes, coating my hair and shoulders, but strangely, I felt nothing–only an overwhelming sense of liberation washing through my veins.
Finally, freedom was within my grasp.
I limped along the forest road but deliberately avoided the path back to Silver Crescent territory. Instead, I diverted to a neutral zone communications outpost and sent an encrypted message to my aunt in the Rogue Territories beyond Alliance control.
“Aunt Diana, I’m coming to join the Wild Pack. Expect me within the week.”
