The divorce agreement was quickly delivered to Ethan’s hands. I had already signed it

In the agreement, I didn’t ask for anything, just for a divorce

It seemed like a winwin deal, but for some reason, Ethan was hesitant to sign

Thanks to my advisor, I found a job. The salary wasn’t high, but it was enough to make ends meet

The day I officially asked Ethan for a divorce, I rented a place and moved out

When I was moving, Ethan, who should have been at the office, came home. He followed me wherever I went, which was annoying

He sarcastically remarked, I’m just afraid you might steal something valuable from my house. I need to keep an eye on you.”

Too tired to argue, I finished packing and prepared to leave. I only took some basic clothes and the heirlooms my mom left me. I didn’t take any of the gold, silver, or jewels he had given me after we got married

But even so, he still wouldn’t let me go

Come to think of it, these clothes were bought with my money after we got married”

My face froze. I was debating whether to take out the heirlooms and throw the suitcase at his feet when Melody’s voice rang out

Brother Ethan, you called me here. Is there something you need?”

He spoke affectionately, I’ve got some jewelry for you. Come take a look. Whatever you like, you can have.He embraced Melody and led her into the bedroom

I said nothing, just dragged my suitcase and left

Before I departed, I heard the deafening slam of the door from

inside

Since Ethan had been delaying signing the divorce papers, I hadn’t deleted him from my friends list

Ever since I left, he’d been updating his social media status daily

Without exception, they were all photos of him and Melody on dates at various places

Though I thought I was over being heartbroken about Ethan, seeing these photos still filled me with an inexplicable melancholy

Every single one of these places, we had visited together. I had thought they were our unique shared memories, but now it seemed they were just cookiecutter dating locations

I dug out the keepsakes my mom had left me, desperately wishing she were still here. If she were, I wouldn’t be bullied like this

Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a bank card in the box

On my wedding day, my mom, who had long suffered from mental illness, had a moment of clarity. She gave me a kitten and a box, saying it was my dowry

Inside the box were all of her remaining jewelry and a bank card

After our family’s misfortune, we had sold off everything of value. This jewelry was what my grandmother had given my mom when she got married. It wasn’t worth much monetarily, but it represented a weighty love.I checked my bank account at the time, thinking there wouldn’t be much money in it. Since it was given to me by my mom, I had never touched it

Today when I checked, I discovered a substantial amount of savings inside

I hugged my blanket and cried all night. It turns out that in a place I didn’t know about, mom was still watching over me

It was this love and protection that gave me new strength

Although I felt sorry, I still explained the situation to my advisor, who expressed understanding

So, I quit my new job

And set off on a journey to the West Coast
