Chapter 4
Rosent’s shirt was wrinkled, as if someone had twisted it forcefully.
“I’m leaving. I might not be back tonight, so don’t wait up for me…”
Before he could finish, he was already gone, never once looking at me.
I stood frozen in place, but then I heard a familiar voice complain, “What’s up with Rosent’s shirt? How can he wear that wrinkled thing out in public? Is a dog chasing him? And he didn’t even greet me when he saw me!”
I was startled by Old Luna’s sudden appearance and fumbled to gather my thoughts.

But Old Luna paid me no mind, rushing straight to the bathroom.
“Hey, Lushya, are you pregnant?”
She was holding the pregnancy test I had tossed into the trash, her face lighting up with pure joy.
I felt so embarrassed I wanted to crawl into a hole and hide, but all I could do was force a smile and say, “Old Luna, it’s not certain yet. I might need to wait a few more days…”
“You can’t wait! You can’t wait! I’ll arrange a dinner with both families tomorrow afternoon. We need to settle this quickly. After all, you’ve been together for so many years, and you’re not getting any younger!”
Old Luna came and went like a gust of wind.

I closed the door behind me, lightly touching my flat stomach, a warm wave of joy swelling inside me.
That night, when I was half asleep, I felt Rosent sneak back in.
I instinctively rolled into his arms. He was stiff all over but didn’t push me away.
The anxiety that had been building for days melted away instantly in his embrace.
As I drifted back to sleep, my phone, which had been hidden under my pillow, buzzed.
Groggily, I grabbed it. Unlocking the screen, I saw a message from my best friend, Kafir
“Eidora, Semond is back…”
“Eidora, didn’t you say Rosent was going to

propose? Why has everything gone quiet all of a sudden?”
“Eidora, a woman’s youth is so short…”
The message bubble at the top kept flashing, as though Kafir was still typing. She must’ve been writing for a while, but there were no new messages.
I was wide awake now, my hand sore from gripping the phone too hard.
“Eidora, she’s back. What are you going to do?”
Kafir was one of my few close friends. We’d known each other since high school and had stayed close ever since.
She was a lawyer, constantly traveling across the country for work.

I worked as a translator for a tech company and had turned down many opportunities for promotion to take better care of Rosent.
Kafir had just returned from a business trip, and usually, she’d be sound asleep by now.
But instead, she was panicking about Semond…
My eyes filled with tears as I looked at Rosent sleeping beside me, the thought lingering in my mind, waiting for me to face it.
Quietly, I got out of bed, grabbed his phone, and headed toward the bathroom.
I tried entering the password three times, but it wouldn’t unlock. His birthday had been the lock screen code before…

“Stop looking. The result will be the same. Don’t make it harder on yourself.”
I froze for a moment, but then unlocked the phone with my fingerprint. The message ⚫ thread immediately appeared.
“Rosent, I was wondering, if I hadn’t left back then, would you have married me?”
“Would have.”
Just one word, and it pierced through my chest, making my heart ache.
I gave a self–deprecating smile, holding back tears, and kept scrolling.
“Rosent, I regret it.”
“Rosent, after all this time, I still can’t forget

you…”
“Rosent, I know you’re with Lushya, but I believe she just took advantage of the situation!”
“We were so in love once. Are you really okay with being with Lushya?”
Rosent never replied. I stubbornly kept scrolling, only to find that all the previous messages had been completely deleted.
