Chapter 6
She was repeating Liora’s words, but we couldn’t make out what they were saying.
As Jora and I walked past Ulric, he kept his gaze fixed on me.
Ugh, what a jerk.
“Kaela, why’s Ulric following us?” Jora tugged at the hem of my shirt as we got closer to the cafeteria.
I turned around, and sure enough, Ulric was just a few meters behind us.
“Where’s Liora? Isn’t she probably in the dorm, all dressed up waiting for you? What are you doing here?” I asked, my irritation creeping into my voice. Before I even

realized it, my tone turned sarcastic.
“Who?” Ulric replied, not a hint of emotion in his voice.
“Liora,” I said, rolling my eyes. “You two were just talking by the classroom door, planning to hang out this afternoon, right?”
Jora, with that mischievous grin of hers, piped up, “Yeah, weren’t you guys about to have some fun together?”
“I don’t know her,” Ulric said, shrugging nonchalantly. “A girl came by earlier, asked if I was waiting for someone. I said yes, and then just ignored her. She stood there, didn’t leave.”
“I knew it,” Jora laughed, her amusement more genuine than when she talked about her own crush. “Liora’s totally faking it.”

Still catching her breath from laughing, Jora finally composed herself and said, “Oh, and get this–Liora said you were taking her out this afternoon. I’m dying here.”
“I was actually going to find Kaela to hang out, not her,” Ulric said seriously.
I froze, and Jora did too. She looked from me to Ulric, confused.
“Well, I’m just a third wheel here, aren’t I?” she muttered, shaking her head.
“Good luck to you two,” she said dramatically. “I’m off to get my steak, and with that, she hurried off.
Hey, you can’t just say stuff like that!
I caught Ulric mumbling quietly, “Ahem, may

your words come true.” Huh???
“Hey, since you two don’t have any classes. this afternoon, want to hit up the amusement park?” Ulric broke the silence.
– “Yeah, sure,” I said. Spending the afternoon with him seemed like the least I could do after he saved me yesterday.
“You go ahead, I added. “Meet me at the entrance. It’d be awkward with all the school buzzing around if they saw us together”
Ulric thought about it for a second before nodding in agreement.
As Ulric walked off, Liora suddenly appeared in front of me.

She shot me a glare–one that felt way too familiar, just like when she glared at me behind Alpha Asher.
“Kaela, first you seduce Alpha Asher, and now you’re going after Ulric? Don’t you have any self–respect?” she sneered.
I ignored her, but Liora, seeing that, was about to shove me.
I sidestepped, and she stumbled, falling to the ground.
I didn’t even bother looking back. Please. I grew up practicing karate. You think you can just push me over?
I left her sitting there, sobbing, and made my way to the amusement park.
Ulric was already waiting at the entrance.

“Which one do you want to try?” he asked, handing me an ice cream and waiting for my
answer.
“Hmm, let’s try that one,” I said, pointing to the haunted house.
I felt Ulric stiffen beside me. Was he thinking I was being too daring?
“Don’t most girls prefer the carousel or something?” he asked.
“Based on your vast experience with girls, I assume?” I teased.
“I Googled it,” Ulric replied matter–of–factly. “Alright, haunted house it is.”
Without another word, Ulric naturally took my hand, guiding me toward the haunted

I could feel his palm slightly sweaty in mine.
Once inside, everything around us was pitch black.
Occasionally, eerie screams echoed through the air, adding to the suspense.
