Chapter3
As I stepped out of the lawyer’s office, divorce papers in hand, my friend’s words echoed in my mind like a bad remix I couldn’t turn off:
“Getting custody of the pup won’t be easy. According to her birth certificate, Alpha Daniel and Camelia are listed as her legal guardians. Unless you or Theodore can prove biologically that you’re the child’s true parents, custody won’t be granted. Even then, it depends on whether the child will want to leave with you.”
So not only did I lose my marriage, but now, I’m a stranger to my own children? My wolf felt the ache in my chest like a claw dragging through my heart, but I didn’t have time to focus on that now.

The only thing I had to hold on to was Theodore. And finding him was the first step.
Since the rogue attack, Theodore and I had set up location–sharing on our phones. He’d insisted on it, claiming he was afraid of losing me again. Ironically, that was nothing more than a self–scripted performance.
I followed the GPS until it brought me to a gated community. The security guard, an older guy with the disinterested look, barely glanced at me. “Beta Theodore isn’t here. He’s out with his mate and daughter.”
“His mate?” I asked, barely able to keep the shock out of my voice.
“Yes,” he continued, “we’ve all seen her. Beta Theodore’s wife is a very beautiful woman, with an amazing figure. They truly seem like

a perfect match.”
A few residents, overheard us and gathered around. One woman chimed in, “That’s right! Beta Theodore’s mate wears high–end, limited–edition designer clothes. I heard he bought her a pink diamond the size of a pigeon’s egg. They’re so sweet, it’s almost nauseating! I’m so jealous.”
Another woman added, “Yeah, she’s
stunning, and their daughter is just adorable, like a little doll. Their family is perfect. It’s so unfair.”
The words hit harder than I’d expected. The wolf in me wanted to growl, but I kept it contained. A middle–aged woman with too much makeup shot me a suspicious glance and sneered. “Who are you? Don’t tell me you’re one of those gold–diggers. Look at you! You’re all disheveled, and their marriage

is rock solid. So forget about it.”
The disdain in their eyes was unbearable. I awkwardly tugged at the hem of my jacket, a bitter feeling crawling up inside me.
As a wolf pack trainer, my work required comfort, so I never cared much about dressing up. Theodore also didn’t like me wearing anything too fancy.
After we married, he rarely let me go to the Packhouse or meet his friends. When I did go, he never introduced me. “The workers here love gossiping about things like you being our Alpha’s ex mate,” he’d often say. “I don’t want them turning you into a topic of conversation.” Now, I realized it was all just
excuses.
As I turned to leave, something caught my eye. There, just a short distance away, stood

Theodore. He was standing close to Camelia, hand in hand, like they were the perfect little family. My wolf’s hackles rose instinctively, though I did my best to keep my cool.
I couldn’t hear what they were saying at first, but then Theodore spoke, his voice just loud enough for me to catch, “Camelia, did Alpha Daniel get suspicious?”
“No,” Camelia replied, her voice playful. “Ever since Eva came into the picture, he’s been even more indulgent with me. Whatever I want, he gives it to me. He holds me close every night before we sleep, kisses me when he leaves, kisses me when he comes home. Honestly, he’s not a heartless Alpha anymore… Theodore, thank you for helping me back then.”
I clenched my fists so tight I could feel my claws wanting to break through my

nails. Theodore’s voice softened, his usual confidence slipping. “As long as you’re happy, it’s all worth it.”
Happy? He was happy with her. My wolf wanted to howl. I had spent years with this man, and now, I was an afterthought. A memory. I couldn’t hold back the bitterness rising in my throat.
Then, just as I was about to turn and storm off, a little girl in a princess dress ran over. She jumped straight into Theodore’s arms, her laughter ringing in my ears like a knife to my gut.
“Mommy, Daddy, Eva’s hungry!”
Then She looked over at me, her big, innocent eyes curious. “Who’s this lady?”
The smile on Theodore’s face faltered when

he noticed me standing there. His gaze went wide, and he quickly handed Eva to Camelia, who took her with ease. He stammered,
clearly flustered, “Amber, what are you doing here?”
“Don’t get the wrong idea. This is Camelia’s child,” he blurted out in a panic. “I… I just consider her my goddaughter”
