By the time Gavin returned to the country, I had already changed the locks at Riverview Estate.
I was practicing a dance routine for an upcoming competition when the doorbell
It was Gavin.
rang.
I met his glare with a calm smile and shut the door. “Sorry, I’m not accepting visitors right now.”
Moments later, I heard the locksmith at work.
The next thing I knew, Gavin stormed into the living room.
“Aria, I told you, I don’t agree to this divorce!”
“But the papers bear your signature,” I replied calmly.
“Someone else must have forged it! Who could’ve gotten access to my signature?” His eyes darkened as realization hit. “I didn’t sign it, and I’m not agreeing to this divorce!”
“That’s fine,” I said. “The courts will finalize it either way. By the way, you’re trespassing.”
“Enough of this nonsense!” He grabbed my shoulders, his frustration spilling over. “What haven’t I given you? Money? Status? Dignity? Women would kill to have what you have! All I’ve done is take on a companion outside our marriage. What’s the big deal?”
“Every rich man has his women. Most wives look the other way and beg their husbands not to leave them. Why can’t you just understand that I need an outlet?”
“Gavin,” I said, my voice steady. “I allowed you to be honest, but you chose to hide, lie, and sneak around. If your ‘outlet‘ is Savanna, let her take center stage. You’re too busy to juggle two women.”
“I told you, I don’t love her!” His eyes burned with intensity. “I won’t divorce you!”

“And I won’t stay married,” I said, unflinching.
“Gavin, you know me well enough to understand–we were over when you ran to someone else.”
“I won’t be the kind of woman you expect. You want both of us? Not happening.”
I gestured toward the door. “Go home. Your mother will force you to sign eventually.”
