We finalized the divorce.
Vivian Carter, as I predicted, used her health as leverage, accusing me of ruining her reputation and forcing Gavin to divorce me.
It felt like déjà vu, a repeat of when she had tried to stop our marriage all those years ago.
Gavin gave me a generous settlement–I might as well take it.
When I went to Carter Tower to finalize the property transfer, I saw Savanna sobbing in the hallway, trying to reach Gavin’s office.
Before she could get inside, security stopped her.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Harlow, but Mr. Carter won’t be seeing you.”
“Gavin!” she cried, desperation dripping from her voice.
A heavy folder flew in her direction from inside the office.
“What are you standing around for? Get her out of here!” Gavin barked.
I paused, recognizing the words he’d once said to protect Savanna. Now, they were
meaningless.
Leaving Carter Industries behind, I felt nothing but relief.
I poured myself into dance, fully committed for the first time in years.
One rainy evening, after a long rehearsal, I returned home to find Gavin sitting outside
Riverview Estate, drenched from head to toe.
ignored him, stepping inside and locking the door.
Hours passed, and the rain didn’t let up. Finally, I grabbed an umbrella and stepped

Hours passed, and the rain didn’t let up. Finally, I grabbed an umbrella and stepped
outside.
Gavin looked up, his face haggard, hair plastered to his forehead. From beneath his
jacket, he pulled out a small, soggy cake.
“You remember, don’t you?” he asked with a shaky smile. “Today’s our wedding
anniversary.”
I hadn’t remembered.
When he tried to pull me closer, the cake slipped, splattering onto his chest. Rain mixed with the frosting as it dripped down, leaving him looking utterly pathetic.
