Chapter 248
Cassandra glanced back and sure enough, it was Samuel Nolan.
A year had passed. She had occasionally heard the news about him. His company’s stocks had plummeted, eventually leading to bankruptcy. However, he hadn’t wallowed in despair; instead, he’d left the Nolans to start his own business. She wasn’t sure how far he’d gotten with it, though.
She’d thought their last meeting at the Nolans‘ house a year ago was the final one, but here they were again.”
“Cassie, are you pregnant?” Samuel’s features had hardened over the past year.”
The sign above Cassandra’s head read “Obstetrics and Gynecology.” Life had a way of coming full circle. A year ago, she’d come to the hospital for a check–up alone while Samuel accompanied Francesca. A year later, she was back for another check–up, this time with Trevor by her side while Samuel was all alone.
Cassandra wasn’t sure if Samuel still harbored feelings for her, so she followed his assumption. “Yeah, I am,” she replied. Samuel’s body stiffened. The smile on his face turned bitter. “Is that so? Then… congratulations.”
Trevor played along with Cassandra’s act. “Honey, the doctor said you shouldn’t stand for too long. We should head
back.”
“Okay.” Cassandra and Trevor walked past Samuel hand in hand.
As they walked away, the warmth vanished from Samuel’s eyes, replaced by a chilling ruthlessness. “Cassie, you can only be mine. How could you bear another man’s children?”

For the next few days, Cassandra was swamped with work. One day, she had to go out for a business meeting. She’d been feeling fatigued lately, so she fell asleep in the car.
When she woke up, she found herself on a ship. Her limbs were bound and across from her sat Samuel. “Samuel, you’re insane! Kidnapping is a crime!”
Samuel’s gaze darkened as he stood up and leaned in, attempting to kiss her. Cassandra quickly turned her face away, dodging him.
His expression instantly turned icy as he gripped her chin. “Cassandra, you once promised me that you would love me for a lifetime. You broke that promise and that makes me very, very angry.”
Cassandra cursed him inwardly, but she tried to reason with him. “Samuel, we’re divorced. If you let me go now, you can still turn back.”
“Cassie, without you, there’s no turning back for me. I’d rather take you down with me.” Samuel’s eyes were both cold and
crazed.
Cassandra was terrified. Samuel had changed; he was nothing like the man she knew. He was a lunatic now.”
She resorted to threats after realizing that reasoning was useless. “Samuel, Trevor will find out I’m missing soon. He has eyes everywhere in Yeslands. You can’t take me away.“!!
Trevor was a born business genius. In just one year, he solidified his position in Yeslands, surpassing the Barnes family’s influence.”
Samuel sneered, “Cassie, we’re at sea. If Trevor dares to make a move, I’ll take you down with me. If we can’t be together in life, then we’ll die together.”
Cassandra felt a bone–chilling fear. She looked at him in disbelief. “Sam, what happened to you?“!
Samuel ran his fingers across her soft skin and whispered in her ear, “Cassie, you left me no choice. I took care of everyone who wronged you. Francesca Stewart? She died in prison. My parents? They’ve lost everything. They used to mock you for being poor, now they can’t even afford to eat. I avenged you, Cassie. You should forgive me now, shouldn’t you?”
“I came all the way to Yeslands to start over with you, but you’re pregnant. How could you have another man’s child?”
