Garfield Simonds opened the door, and Ida gave him a look of disgust.
“Ellie’s body has already been cremated. I’m here to collect her belongings today, and to get Mimi,” she said bluntly.
Garfield Simonds looked up. “Her ashes? Please, give me her ashes. I’m begging you. I can give you money, as much as you want.”
Ida spat coldly, “Don’t pretend to care now; it makes me sick.”
Garfield Simonds‘ eyes reddened. “I know I was wrong, but she never gave me a chance to make it right. I messed up a lot, but I never wanted to break up with her. I loved her… how could she just die like that…”

Tears welled up in Ida’s eyes too. “You love her? Would you love someone and treat her as a substitute? Would you love someone and make her go through multiple surgeries? Ellie was terrified of pain since she was a child, and you made her die with someone else’s face. For a message from June Tillery, you left her on her birthday. And you say you loved her? Garfield Simonds, how dare you say that!”
I wrapped my arms around Ida, trying to comfort her.

conscience left, don’t disturb Ellie anymore.
And don’t ever come near me again.”

Then tears began to roll down her face again.
She muttered to herself, “Ellie, I’ll take care of Mimi for you. You’ve endured so much; why didn’t you tell me? That car was going so fast, did it hurt?”
I gently hugged her shoulders. “It doesn’t hurt anymore; it doesn’t hurt.”
Ida chose a plot for me and buried my ashes with my parents.
For some reason, my soul never faded away.
I stayed by Ida’s side, watching her go to work, eat, and walk the dog.
Ida got a boyfriend and took him to visit my grave.

Mimi was ten years old, missing two teeth, moving slower, and sleeping more.
Ida’s family all loved her dearly.
I often petted Mimi’s head and teased her, “You little rascal, have you forgotten your sister already? Your sister never forgot you.”
One morning, Mimi passed away in Ida’s
arms.
In the light, I saw Mimi’s soul. I knelt down and opened my arms, and Mimi’s small, white figure ran towards me, barking just like before.
“Mimi, it’s time to go home with your sister.”
