Chapter 6
I stayed in the hospital for a week before returning home.
As soon as I arrived, Daniel gave me a cold, menacing glare.
“Jane Schneider, where the hell have you been these past few days?”
His icy question almost made me laugh with
anger.
“I went to see Grandma.”
“You’re lying! I asked around, and your grandma didn’t even go to the hospital.”
He angrily threw a cup from the coffee table onto the floor.

The glass shattered, and some shards landed on my foot, stinging slightly, though the pain couldn’t compare to the heartache I was feeling.
“I had the baby aborted. You couldn’t even figure that out?”
The words hung in the air, light but piercing. Daniel suddenly stood up.
“What did you say?”
His eyes widened, his face contorted with fury as though he was ready to devour me.
“I said, your son is gone.”
I let out a cold laugh and glared at him.
“How dare you ask me that? Do you need me

to expose everything you’ve done?”
At that moment, Penny walked out of the bedroom in her pajamas.
Seeing the scene before her, she pretended to rush over to comfort me.
“Jane, since things have gotten this bad, maybe you should divorce him. I support you.”
I sneered, derision evident in my smile.
Just then, Daniel shouted loudly, “Dream on! I’m not getting a divorce!”
“Then wait for the court summons,” I said, grabbing my suitcase and walking out.
After moving to the villa in the suburbs, I took advantage of a brief moment when the

housekeeper and nanny were busy tidying up to head to the office.
After graduating from college, I started a clothing brand, and to my surprise, it became a huge hit, sparking a trend.
Seeing my business flourishing, Daniel became interested and joined me, handling operations.
The following year, we bought a penthouse duplex and a sports car.
Later, my father also invested in the company, and our brand continued to grow, eventually going public.
When I became pregnant last year, Daniel insisted that my pregnancy symptoms were severe, so I should stay home and focus on resting. He basically took over all company

affairs.
At the time, I was more than happy to hand the reins over to him and enjoy being a wealthy wife at home.
But now, I trusted Daniel no longer.
When I showed up at the office, Daniel’s face turned dark, and the atmosphere in the office plummeted.
The colleagues quickly noticed, burying themselves in their work, eager not to bring themselves any trouble.
As I walked through the company, I realized that many of the faces were unfamiliar, and the few familiar ones had dwindled to almost
none.
After inquiring, I learned that these new

employees were all nired by Daniel.
He replaced a large number of the original staff, claiming the company needed fresh blood.
Most of those employees had been with the company since its inception, and though Daniel had mentioned personnel changes to me, I was so wrapped up in the joy of my pregnancy that I failed to notice anything unusual.
With this realization, I checked the financial records from the past two years and discovered more discrepancies.
The company’s expenses were over half more than what they had been when I managed it.
I immediately scheduled a meeting with the

financial manager.
As I grabbed my bag and left the office, I didn’t notice the cold, piercing gaze following me from behind.
In the café, I focused intently on the financial manager’s report.
As expected, over the past year, Daniel had been moving assets around.
There was no doubt that Penny was involved behind all this, as she was in charge of handling all the financial department’s tasks, including going to the tax bureau.
I asked the manager for more details.
After he left, I sat in the café, lost in thought.
