Chapter 14
Isabella had met William two years ago.
Like the other researchers at her institute, she spent most of her time there for experiments. Only occasionally would the professor force them to take a break to relax, locking the lab doors and windows to make sure they didn’t sneak back in to work. Only then would they go out and enjoy themselves for a little while.
The rest of the time, aside from accepting awards, she hardly ever left the lab.
Two years ago, while traveling abroad with her senior colleagues, she got separated from them. While waiting for them to return, she unexpectedly bumped into William.
He casually approached, and when he saw her face, he froze for a moment.
Isabella noticed him staring at her face and instinctively became cautious.
She didn’t say much, carefully distancing herself. When her senior colleagues found her, she quietly mentioned the encounter.
Her seniors asked him a few questions, and he gave vague answers, only saying that he knew her. But since Isabella denied knowing him, they assumed he was up to no good and had him taken to the local police station.
In a way, that was their first meeting.
Later, after the misunderstanding was cleared up, their interactions gradually increased.
He had shown a strong interest in her from the start, and his occasional invitations were welcomed by the professor, even causing some frustration among the other seniors.
William knew exactly how to gauge the right amount of attention–enough to keep her interested but not too frequent to make her feel uncomfortable.
Everything seemed to fall into place naturally.
Let me know if you need any further adjustments or clarifications!
Five years had passed since they last met, but as soon as Isabella heard the voice, she instantly recognized
it–Alexander.
The man who had been her husband for six years and had given her six years of nightmares that she couldn’t escape.

Her steps faltered slightly, and William, dragging a suitcase behind her, quickly caught up. He caught sight of Alexander, who was standing there frozen, and instinctively rolled his eyes at him.
Before Alexander could react, William smoothly wrapped his arm around Isabella’s waist, leading her toward the airport exit.
“Isabella, stop being mad. I’ve already booked a table at Luxury Pavilion. How about we go eat there together?”
Upon hearing that they were going to her favorite restaurant, Isabella’s anger had already dissipated considerably. She was still a little uncomfortable and unwilling to let go of her small tantrum, but she didn’t push him away. She had practically accepted his suggestion without a word.
The two of them pretended, without hesitation, that they didn’t know Alexander, walking straight past him. He hurriedly followed behind them, and when he saw them leave together, he froze for a moment.
It took him a second to realize that the two of them clearly shared a special relationship. Whether it was anger or sadness, he couldn’t tell, but before his mind could process the situation, his body had already
made a decision.
“Isabella, wait!TM
Alexander had intended to stop Isabella, but after calling out, he noticed that the two of them were walking faster and faster. Eventually, they even started running!
He watched helplessly as Isabella and William quickly got into the car, without any hesitation. As the car door slammed shut, they drove off, leaving him in a cloud of dust.
He lowered his hand in defeat, and the phone in his other hand emitted a confused voice from his
business partner.
“Mr. Carter? Mr. Carter?! Are you listening to me?”
By the time Alexander snapped out of his daze, the call had already been disconnected.
He didn’t care. His finger swiped across the screen and dialed another number.
“Find out where William has been these past few years, what he’s been doing, and when… he started getting in touch with Isabella.”
Assistant Sam was initially puzzled by Alexander’s sudden interest in William but was alarmed when he heard the last part. His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately responded.
Isabella’s whereabouts were confidential, but William’s were not.
Alexander, who had been searching for clues for five years, finally received the information after three
