After I left, Lucian bombarded me with calls, but I just blocked his number.
Once I quit my job, I immediately joined the family business.
The company was in its early stages, launching a new division, and I was overwhelmed with work. There was no time to focus on the divorce, so I left everything to my lawyer to handle.
Meanwhile, a few former colleagues reached out.
[Selene, after you left, everything’s changed. Marina is walking around like she’s Mr. Blake’s wife now. It’s so nauseating.]
[She thinks she’s all that, constantly badmouthing everyone. I can’t stand it.]
[Several of us are thinking about quitting.]
I replied calmly: [The job market is tough right now. It’s better to hang in there until things improve.]
It wasn’t just the colleagues. Our suppliers, who I had long–term relationships with, were also complaining.
[Selene, what’s going on with your company? Did the division head change? Everything’s been a mess lately.]
I explained patiently that I had left and wasn’t sure what was happening. They were surprised but still expressed a preference for working directly
with me.

While I was busy with the new business, I got another call from my lawyer. Lucian refused to sign the divorce papers and insisted on meeting me.
I really didn’t want to, but I agreed to meet with him, with my lawyer by my side.
We met at a café, and when Lucian walked in, I barely recognized him. He looked exhausted, his clothes were wrinkled, and he had clearly lost his
usual sharp, polished appearance.
When he saw me, his face softened. “Selene, I’ve been thinking. I was wrong, and I’m sorry. Please come back home, okay?”
I raised an eyebrow, unamused. “Lucian, I think you know why I’m here. I didn’t come to listen to your apology. I came to discuss our divorce.”
His face dropped, and he slumped in his seat. “Selene, why are you being so hard on me? Yes, I made mistakes. I did things a lot of men do, but I’ve realized my errors, and I want to change. So why can’t you just forgive me? Why do you have to be so stubborn about the divorce?”
I shook my head in disbelief. “Lucian, this isn’t about forgiveness. The problem is between us. I don’t trust you anymore. I don’t love you anymore.”
His face drained of color, and he slumped further in his chair. “But Selene, I still love you.”
His words came too late, like a broken record.
It was clear we weren’t going to reach any agreement today. My lawyer cleared his throat. “Mr. Blake, while we’re on the subject, could you please discuss with Marina the repayment of the five thousand my client lent her?”
Lucian looked confused. “What five thousand?”
I couldn’t help but smile bitterly. “Did you really think she was just going to disappear for nothing? Apparently, all you’re worth to her is five thousand
bucks.”
My lawyer calmly slid out the recorder. He pressed play, and Marina’s voice echoed through the café.
“Selene, please, I’m out of options. Lucian is forcing me to be his mistress. He said if I don’t give him a million, he’ll ruin my career. He’s terrible, but I can’t get away from him. I’m begging you, Selene, please lend me some money. I swear I’ll pay you back once I’m free of him.”
The recording filled the air, and Lucian went pale. He sank into his chair as if all the life had been drained from him.
