When Lionel turned around, he saw Stephanie standing behind him, staring him down.
Kayla couldn’t help but laugh. “What’s the problem? My husband just complimented me and now you’re mad?”
It clicked for Lionel then, Kayla had already noticed Stephanie standing there. The whole thing had been a setup and he quickly wiped the surprise off his face.
Looking at Stephanie, he realized she was wearing the dress he had bought for Kayla
“What are you doing here?” Kayla asked sharply. “I told you not to come.”
Stephanie’s uninvited presence really irked her. Kayla didn’t want to deal with anyone who couldn’t respect boundaries.
Lionel’s tone shifted and everyone could sense the change. Stephanie had clearly lost her spot. The moment Kayla walked in, she took charge of the room.
Stephanie, now looking embarrassed, tried to play innocent. “Didn’t you give me this dress?” she asked Lionel, feigning confusion
w you’re
Lionel blinked, staring at her. “What? No, I bought that for Kayla. You always want her place, but now stealing her dress?”
There was a collective gasp in the room and Kayla just sat back, enjoying the show.
Ordway. My Dear Ex Husband
Stephanie didn’t expect Lionel to call her out like that and her face turned bright red, She struggled to find the
words.
“I didn’t!” she stammered.
Kayla grinned and leaned in. “I’m sure my sister didn’t mean anything by it, right? Lionel, let’s go easy on her.” As soon as Lionel heard Kayla call him, his expression softened and he hurried over with that familiar gentleness.
Stephanie, though, remembered how he had treated her just moments ago in front of everyone and now he was practically bending over backward for Kayla.
It didn’t sit well with her. When she saw them about to leave, she couldn’t help herself and rushed forward. But in her rush, she stepped on her dress, tripped and ended up pushing Kayla to the ground. “Stephanie! What the hell are you doing? Lionel yelled, moving to help Kayla, but she quickly stopped him. “I’m fine, I can get up on my own,” Kayla said, trying to steady herself. She had sprained her ankle when she fell and the whole thing was beyond embarrassing.
Just then, a hand appeared in front of her; slim, with noticeable veins running along it. It was like a lifeline, offering her a moment of relief.
Before she could even refuse, the man in the navy blue suit gently lifted her up and placed her on a chair. Kayla blinked, finally taking in his face–a sharp, serious expression that left her a little stunned.
“Thank you,” she muttered, still caught off guard.
He nodded, then introduced himself
Only then did Kayla realize who he was–Simon, the heir to the Faulkner Group
He wasn’t like the typical rich kid who coasted through life. He had grown up in a disciplined environment, always focused on running his family’s business and it showed
Kayla couldn’t help but admire that.
On the other hand, Stephanie was still on the floor, ignored and left to deal with her own mess.
