The cake and wine on the table splattered all over Stephanie’s dress and instantly, she was the center of attention.
Lionel stood off to the side, watching her with cold, uninterested eyes, never even moving to help
Kayla felt nothing seeing Stephanie’s embarrassment. Instead, her attention drifted to Simon, the man who had just helped her up.
She figured, since he liked playing the hero, he would probably help Stephanie too, but he didn’t. He just walked off and joined the crowd, acting like nothing had happened.
There was something familiar about him, though, something she couldn’t quite place.
Meanwhile, Stephanie, clearly humiliated, took off her high heels and struggled to stand. She was barely holding it together.
She finally found Lionel in the crowd and called out, “Lionel! It hurts so much!”

Lionel, however, didn’t even spare her a second glance before turning to Kayla. “Kayla, are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
Stephanie watched him, confused and hurt. “Why don’t you care about me?” she asked, voice tight.
Lionel paused, clearly thrown by her question. Then, his face hardened. “Care about you? You’re the one who hurt Kayla! You’ve ruined everything and now you’re still acting like the victim!”
Stephanie winced, realizing she had a cut on her arm from the glass and it was bleeding. But even with that, Lionel didn’t seem to care.
“Blame her if you want! She’s taking everything from me!” Stephanie snapped, unable to hide the frustration.

Kayla
didn t need to respona, she understood what Stephanie meant–sne wanted both a man and a lamer and Kayla could take them both from her.
Lionel’s face darkened as he heard it.
“What’s your problem with your sister? What makes you think you can talk about her like that? You better
apologize to Kayla, now!” Lionel practically shouted.
Stephanie just stood there, eyes red. She didn’t throw a tantrum like before, just quietly wiped away the tears. Maybe it was for Lionel, or maybe just to save face.
“I’m not apologizing,” she said, her voice firm, but there was a hint of disgust in her eyes. The love she once showed off now felt like a joke, a big one.
A joke that had fallen apart
“Well, then get out of the Sutton Family! You’ve gone against Kayla one too many times. This family doesn’t have
room for you anymore!” Lionel shot back.
Stephanie didn’t say a word. With a sneer, she picked up her dress and stormed off.
Kayla didn’t say anything. She just watched, her heart heavy but somehow relieved. Maybe seeing her sister suffer was the only thing that could bring her peace.
Kayla stayed quiet, lost in her thoughts.
She lit a cigarette, watching Lionel walk away
She couldn’t even remember when she started smoking. Maybe no one would get it–how a lady like her ended up with such a bad habit.
