One evening, Ethan finally came home.
He brought the sister–in–law with him.
Seeing my daughter wasn’t there, they exchanged a look, eyes filled with schadenfreude.
Ethan swaggered into the living room, smirking at me.
“Finally, some peace and quiet.”
“You’re a beast.”
I glared at Ethan with hatred.
The sister–in–law giggled, covering her mouth, “Sister–in–law, don’t be sad. I know you’re upset about losing your child.”
Her laughter echoed in the empty living room.
The anger within me burned fiercely, and I wanted to tear them apart.
But I knew I couldn’t act rashly.
Acting impulsively would only alert them.
I looked at Ethan.
“What if one day you find out she really is your biological child? Wouldn’t you regret your actions?”
“Relax, that day will never come.”
Ethan looked at me with disdain.
The sister–in–law also glanced nervously at me, her

eyes darting.
Seeing me silent, the sister–in–law thought I was scared.
She straightened her back, purposely showing off the red marks on her neck, taunting me.
I knew they were from Ethan.
I hadn’t known about their relationship before.
Until I accidentally saw a love letter the sister–in–law wrote to Ethan.
I was devastated, unable to accept that my husband was desired by his sister.
But Ethan said the sister–in–law was young and naïve.
Since their parents died early, she depended on him more.
So she mistakenly took her dependence as love.
I believed him at the time.
It wasn’t until the sister–in–law died in my past life that I learned they weren’t biological siblings.
The sister–in–law was adopted by the Ethan family.
Because of this, they couldn’t be openly together.

And I became the perfect cover.
Moreover, their improper relationship had been ongoing for many years.
I suppressed my inner rage, “Aren’t you afraid of karma for being so smug?”
Ethan scoffed dismissively, “Stop talking nonsense. What can you do now?”
The sister–in–law chimed in mockingly, “Sister–in–law, stop being stubborn. Face reality”
I slowly walked to a cabinet, gently touching the family photo displayed on it.
“Ethan, do you really have no fatherly love for Sweetie?”
“Shut up!”
“Ethan, do you remember the promise you made when you married me? You said you’d protect me and the child, but what have you done? You’re involved with your so–called sister and keep hurting us.”
Ethan’s face changed slightly, but he forced himself to stay calm, “Stop spouting nonsense. We’re innocent.”
My sister–in–law, with a mocking tone, said, “Sister–in–law, stop being stubborn and face the facts.”
Ethan’s expression shifted slightly, but he tried to maintain his composure. “You’re talking nonsense. There’s nothing going on between us.”
“Nothing?” I laughed bitterly. “Then how do you explain the marks on her neck?”
My sister–in–law instinctively covered her neck, looking uneasy.
Ethan stubbornly replied, “She was bitten by a mosquito.”
I walked towards them, each step deliberate and steady.
“I’ve kept quiet for the sake of our marriage and this family. But you’ve pushed us to the brink, leaving my daughter and me with no way out.”
“Soon, your disgraceful acts will be exposed. You will pay for hurting my daughter and for your illicit affair.”
“I will make you regret your actions for the rest of your lives.”
I left those words hanging as I turned and left the living room, leaving Ethan and my sister–in–law in stunned silence.
They never expected the usually meek me to show my fierceness.
