Once, when my sister–in–law wasn’t around, I casually mentioned, “I heard paternity tests can be faked. It’s terrifying, don’t you think?”
Ethan frowned, a hint of suspicion in his eyes.
Since then, I could clearly feel the growing rift between Ethan and my sister–in–law.
One day, I arrived at the Fu house to hear them arguing fiercely in a room.
“Can’t you use your head? Drugging someone? Are you trying to end up in jail like that idiot Liam?” Ethan yelled angrily.
“I didn’t mean to. I just couldn’t stand her. Why does she get to stay by your side?” My sister–in–law cried.
“You’re always causing trouble. What’s the point of saying this now?”
I raised an eyebrow.
No wonder my sister–in–law suddenly brought me a glass of milk at dinner.
Turns out she had drugged it.
But Ethan feared something might go wrong, so he deliberately knocked it over.
After their argument, I composed myself and walked in as if nothing had happened.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Ethan and my sister–in–law were taken aback.
My sister–in–law’s face was still streaked with tears.
Ethan glared at me and left.
My sister–in–law also glared before running off, crying.
I smiled.
I knew with Ethan’s suspicious nature, he would definitely check the paternity test.
Sure enough, a few days later, Ethan seemed like a changed man.
His attitude toward my sister–in–law deteriorated rapidly, to the point of disgust.
Whenever he saw her, he avoided her like the plague.
My sister–in–law seemed to notice Ethan’s change as well.
She cried constantly, trying to win him back, but it was all in vain.
One night, I received a call from Ethan.
“Is Sweetie really my daughter?”
“Haven’t you confirmed it?”
There was a long silence on the other end, only Ethan’s heavy breathing.
After a while, his voice came through, choked with regret.
Ethan had lost his ability to father children after a car accident two years ago.
My daughter was his only child.

“I…I really don’t know what to do. I’ve checked everything, even had the top institute re–evaluate it. Sweetie is truly my flesh and blood.”
“But in my past life, I killed her with my own hands.”
I sneered, my heart seething with hatred.
“Do you know how desperate I was when Sweetie was in the hospital fighting for her life? Do you know how heartbroken I was every time she cried, asking why her dad didn’t love her?”
Ethan sobbed on the other end, “I was wrong. I was so wrong. Please give me a chance. I know Sweetie’s alive in this life, thank goodness she wasn’t harmed…”
Ethan had been desperate upon learning his daughter was truly his.
But Liam had told him she was successfully sent to the hospital that day.
When he checked again, he found that his daughter was indeed alive.
I shouted, “Where were you when Sweetie needed you most? Saying this now is too late.”
Ethan said despairingly, “I know I’m unforgivable, but Sweetie is innocent. She needs her father. I really want to start over and love her
properly.”
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. “Ethan, don’t think you can easily get forgiveness like this. Whether Sweetie forgives you depends on your ability.”
Ethan wanted to say more, but I didn’t want to listen, and I hung up the phone directly.
