Chapter 14
The surveillance footage clearly captured the events leading up to this moment.
The police had cleared the scene, taken statements, and were preparing to take both the body and Xena back to the
station.
Charlie held onto the person tightly, unwilling to let go.
Xena lay limp in his arms, her eyes vacant, clearly in a state of breakdown.
Charlie was heartbroken, planning to discuss with the police and wait until she had calmed down before taking further steps.
However. Chad stopped everything from happening
He brought over a piece of surveillance footage and handed it to the police, speaking slowly and calmly.
“Officer Zack, this is a surveillance video that clearly shows Xena being involved in the murder of my wife. I request
that an investigation be opened.”
At this moment, Xena, who had been out of her mind, suddenly snapped back to reality and began screaming uncontrollably.
“It wasn’t me! It was an accident! The police have already investigated and cleared it
up!”
“Charlie even signed a letter of forgiveness on my behalf! You can’t hold me responsible!”
Shea
She argued frantically, and Charlie also wanted to help her clear things up.
But Chad did not give him the chance.
“Officer Zack, my wife and the signer are only related by marriage as aunt and nephew, so the letter of forgiveness signed at the police station holds no legal weight. Furthermore, my wife insists on pressing charges and requesting an investigation. Do you understand what I mean?”
Officer Zack’s face grew serious as he solemnly accepted the evidence and prepared to take Xena away.
Charlie tried to stop them, but was halted by a single sentence from Chad.
“Once you step out of this door today, you will no longer carry the Spencer family name. Our Spencer family cannot tolerate criminals who conspire with murderers.”
“Furthermore, you were present at the scene that day, and the agreement was signed in your name.
You will be summoned by the police, and I hope you will speak the truth. Whether you’re innocent or an accomplice, that will be for the police and the court to decide.”
Charlie’s face turned pale, and he didn’t dare say another word.

Chapter 14
Seeing him remain motionless, Xena’s last hope faded away.
She gathered all her strength and broke free, slapping him hard across the face. Her voice was filled with despair.
“Charlie! You’re such a weak, useless, heartless man! I was wrong about you! No wonder Jenna never looked at you. You deserve to be dumped by her and used by me, hahahahaha!“
“I’m telling you, I never liked you! All those sweet words I said were just to trick you into giving me money and gifts! You’re only good for that, with your money and your face.
Apart from that, you’re just a useless good–for–nothing! If I could live my life over, I’d rather marry that gardener than ever look at you again!”
The hesitation and pity that had once lingered in Charlie’s eyes vanished as he listened to her every word.
For the first time, he realized that the person he had loved and protected for so many years was nothing more than a materialistic, superficial individual.
He shoved Xena away, his voice laced with unspoken anger and pain.
“Get out!”
The police escorted the struggling woman out of the Spencer family estate.
As the door closed behind them, Charlie felt as though all his strength had been drained.
He turned and, just in time, locked eyes with a familiar gaze.
It was Jenna.
Seeing her, the bitterness in his heart deepened. He slightly parted his lips, wanting to call out to her.
“Jenna.”
Jenna didn’t respond.
She reached out to Chad standing beside her, her voice soft and gentle.
“The matter’s temporarily settled. You should go greet my parents with tea.”
“Alright, they’re probably waiting impatiently by now.”
Watching the two of them walk away together, Charlie’s eyes gradually lost their luster.
A sharp pain surged in his chest, so intense that tears welled up in his eyes.
He felt something inside him slowly fade away, drifting further and further.
And he could never find it again.
On the way home, Chad kept flipping through the medical report his secretary had just delivered from the hospital.

He read the sentence, “Minor injuries, no abnormalities in the internal organs or hones,” six or seven times before finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Jenna, sitting beside him, casually took the report and tossed it into her bag, her tone light and cheerful.
“I told
it’s nothing. You insisted on taking me for a check–up this morning. Now, can you finally relax?”
“Only after seeing the results with my own eyes could I feel at ease. It’s just a matter of spending a little more time,” Chad replied, sounding reasonable.
Jenna nodded, but then remembered something important.
“When did you get the surveillance footage from Charlie’s villa?”
“This morning.”
Chad answered promptly, and Jenna seemed a bit puzzled.
“Didn’t he know?”
“He doesn’t need to. After all, every asset he owns must pass through my hands–his house, cars, shares, everything.”
At this, Jenna suddenly had a strange thought.
Before she could grasp the fleeting idea, it vanished as quickly as it came, leaving behind an unsettling feeling in her chest that lingered for a long time.
But now that everything had been settled, she couldn’t be bothered to dwell on it. With a renewed sense of energy. she asked Chad if he wanted to try her cooking.
