Chapter 15
He looked at her in surprise, his tone filled with curiosity.
“You can cook?”
At 21. Jenna naturally wasn’t much of a cook.
However, after giving birth to her daughter in her past life, she had learned a lot from a nutritionist.
But in front of him, she didn’t dare act like an expert. She humbly said she knew a little.
Once in the kitchen, she managed to burn the fresh, plump the fish to a crisp. As the kitchen filled with smoke, the confidence on her face turned into embarrassment, and she scrambled for excuses.
“I only know how to make nutritious meals. This is my first time pan–frying fish. It’s normal to mess up, right?”
Chad, suppressing a laugh, offered his full support for her effort.
“Then just stick to making nutritious meals. As long as we eat healthy, we’ll live long and grow old together.”
It was meant to be a heartwarming sentiment, but when Jenna heard it, a wave of sadness washed over her.
In her past life, he had only lived to 35, and she had died in the same year.
Together, they hadn’t even reached 100 years.
This time, although fate had changed its course, what lay ahead?
No one knew.
Noticing the distant look in her eyes, Chad quickly changed the subject.
“But how come you suddenly wanted to try making fish when you’ve never cooked it before?”
Jenna was caught off guard by the question.
She stammered, unable to explain herself, and in a fit of annoyance, wiped the black stain from her hands onto his
clothes.
“I heard you love fish, so… if I’d known you wouldn’t appreciate it, I wouldn’t have wasted my time.”
Chad wiped her hands while reassuring her.
“Anything my wife makes, even if it’s burnt, I’ll still love it. Should I have them send a few more fish? I’ll watch over the heat this time. Today, it’ll definitely turn out well.”
With his words, Jenna’s confidence grew, and she rolled up her sleeves again.
Chapter 15
After several hours of effort and after accidentally killing three fish in the process she finally managed to make at creamy white fish soup.
Chad immediately took a photo to commemorate the moment and posted it on his social media for the first time.
“First bowl of fish soup my wife made.
In just a few minutes, the likes and comments on his post soared to 99 + .
“?? Who made this? Jenna, when did she learn to cook? We had no idea!”
“So sour, so sour, so sour! Someone, please make me a bowl of fish soup!”
“I want some too! Next time, let my sister–in–law show off her skills!”
Chad also saw the post.
He stared at the photo, noticing the hand with a ring visible at the edge. The sense of loneliness in his heart reached its peak at that moment.
That ring had originally belonged to him.
That bowl of fish soup was also meant for him.
But now, everything was gone. He had nothing left, only an empty, cold room.
Where did everything go wrong?
Chad couldn’t figure it out. The only thing he could do was drown his sorrow in alcohol.
A little tipsy, the suppressed feelings and forbidden thoughts were finally unleashed. Unable to resist, he called
Jenna
It took four attempts before the call finally connected, and all he could hear was her faint breathing on the other
end.
He listened groggily, his voice heavy.
“Jenna, it was my fault before. I shouldn’t have kept ignoring you. I’m sorry. I know you still have feelings for me. Marrying my uncle was just your way of getting back at me, right?”
“How about you divorce him and come back to me? I promise, I’ll make up for everything–the wedding, the rings, the wedding dress. I’ll be with you wholeheartedly from now on…”
He mumbled softly, pouring out the unspeakable emotions that had been bottled up inside.
But the other side remained silent.
The endless silence began to gnaw at Charlie’s nerves.
Chapter 15
“Jenna, why aren’t you saying anything…”
“Honey, where’s the blow dryer?”
Hearing a familiar voice faintly in the background, Charlie’s breath caught in his throat.
The next second, he heard Chad’s voice, clear and close.
“Just wait a moment. I’ll get it for you.”
A soft, tender reply, followed by an abrupt coldness in his tone.
“Charlie, your priority right now should be to give the police an explanation, not to offend your little aunt who you’ve hurt time and time again.”
The call abruptly ended with a beep.
Charlie felt his heart plummet into the dark void of the night.
On the other side. Chad was holding the blow dryer, drying Jenna’s hair.
She was applying some facial cream when she casually asked,
“Did someone call just now?”
Chad nodded, telling the truth.
“Charlie was drunk again and called to vent. I gave him a good talking to on your behalf.”
A “good talking–to“?
The term sounded a little odd when used in reference to Charlie.
But when she remembered that they were now aunt and nephew, Jenna felt a strange sensation bubble up inside her. She couldn’t help but want to clarify.
“From the way you said it, it sounds like you often give him a lesson, but aren’t you just six years older than him?”
Seeing the curiosity in her eyes, Chad chuckled lightly.
“When he was in kindergarten, he was so mischievous that he deliberately pulled away a chair and caused my grandfather to fall and break his leg.
He had to stay in the hospital for half a month, and I gave him a good beating. Ever since then, he’s been terrified of me, like a mouse seeing a cat.”
So that’s where it came from–a psychological trauma.
Jenna finally understood.
“He’s so afraid of you, but how do you see him?”

Chapter 15
Chad paused for a moment, a flicker of complicated emotions passing through his eyes.
After a long silence, he carefully considered his response.
“He’s too impulsive, not mature enough, and not capable of handling big responsibilities.”
That was a very fair evaluation.
Jenna couldn’t help but be impressed by his sharp insight. It made her want to ask him how he saw her.
This time, he hesitated even longer.
“Smart, rational, decisive. And most importantly, you have good taste.”
Jenna had lived two lifetimes, but it was the first time anyone had used those words to describe her.
But only she knew that these were lessons she had learned through blood and tears.
Seven years of cold violence in her marriage, a daughter who died tragically, a life spent in sickness and depression…
Even though those were all distant memories, just thinking about them still caused a pang of sadness in her heart.
She leaned against Chad’s chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, slowly letting those emotions dissolve.
Everything was a brand–new
