Chapter 18

On the day of their six year old birthday, the old man decided to throw a grand birthday party for the twins

Jenna took two days off from school, and the family of four arrived at the old house a day in advance

As the party was about to begin, the castleshaped birthday cake they had ordered days ago still hadn’t arrived

Chad wanted to drive to the store to ask about it, but Jenna refused to let him go. She would rather have the maids quickly bake two regular cakes

However, Chad knew how much the kids had been looking forward to the castle cake and didn’t want to disappoint

them

The old man, who spoiled his greatgrandchildren, also told him to hurry up and come back, but Jenna still wouldn’t

allow it

Chad had intended to persuade her, but when he saw her trembling hands and the nervousness in her eyes, softened and put the car keys down

he

What’s the matter with the birthday today? If you don’t want me to go, I won’t. Let’s just enjoy it and have a good time, okay?”

Jenna slowly calmed down but still wouldn’t let go of his hand

She clearly remembered that, in her previous life, it was on the twinssixth birthday that Chad had been in a car

accident

Though things had changed in this life, she couldn’t let herself be complacent

The pain of losing a loved one was something she had already experienced once

So, this time, no matter what, she would keep him by her side

When she realized the castle cake wouldn’t be arriving, the two little girls pouted and sat on the swings in the garden, sighing

Just then, Charlie happened to come back and saw them. A gentle smile appeared on his face

He approached with a gift he had carefully prepared, intending to surprise them. But before he could say anything. the girls started whispering

Why doesn’t Mommy let Daddy go get our cake?”

I don’t know, but Mommy said no, so Daddy must listen to her.”

Forget it, we’ll ask Daddy to get a new one next year. By then, we’ll be older, and the castle will definitely be bigger and prettier!”

Charlie’s heart softened when he heard that

What cake?”

The two little girls, upon seeing him, immediately ran into his arms, calling him Big Brotherover and over, and in their cute voices, explained the situation about the cake

Charlie nodded, handing them the gift and gently patting their heads

Why don’t you two stay home and wait for a while? Big Brother will go help you get your cake.”

However, the girls didn’t immediately agree. Instead, they each grabbed one of his hands

No, Big Brother. Mommy said we’re just having regular cake today. If she finds out, she’ll be upset.”

Yeah, Big Brother, if you go now, you’ll miss our candleblowing ceremony, and there won’t be enough cake for everyone

Seeing their mischievous behavior, for a moment, Charlie almost felt like he was looking at two

He still vividly remembered how she used to follow him around, calling him Charlie Brotherwhen they were children

But alas, all of that was in the past now

He closed his eyes, hiding the emotions swirling in his heart, and forced a smile

It’s okay, you don’t have to tell Mommy. Big Brother will go get the cake. Just remember to save a piece of birthday cake for Big Brother, alright?”

The three of them made a pinky promise, and then Charlie grabbed his car keys and left

Just before stepping out, he was strangely compelled to look back, and he saw Jenna pulling the two girls back into the living room

She still looked just as she did when she was twenty, as if time hadn’t touched her

But Charlie knew that everything had changed

She no longer belonged to him

After her figure disappeared behind the door, Charlie got into the car, his mood darkening

The weather was overcast, and as he glanced at the shrinking distance on his navigation, waiting at the red light, he suddenly noticed an old, rundown car pulling up next to him. The window rolled down

He instinctively turned his head, and when he saw the gaunt face inside the car, his gaze froze
