Chapter 20
She was leaning on the second floor railing, her eyes curving into a sly smile like a mischievous fox.
Just seeing her expression, he knew she must have read the letters.
All the secrets he had kept hidden for over ten years were now out in the open, but instead of feeling panicked, he felt a strange sense of relief.
The housekeeper took the children outside to play, and Chad took the letters and walked over to Jenna. Before he could speak, she quickly distanced herself from the situation.
“Your precious daughters found them. It has nothing to do with me!”
Chad pulled her into his arms, inhaling the faint fragrance of her hair, and chuckled softly.
“These letters were meant for Star. How can you say it has nothing to do with you?”
After all this time, Jenna finally heard the truth. She raised her hand and pinched his ear playfully.
“Tell me the truth. When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me before we got married?”
In front of her. Chad always surrendered.
“The letters were written when you were seventeen. I liked you when I was thirteen. Do you remember that year we both got the flu? My parents were busy with work and asked your mom to look after me. We stayed in a hospital suite together.
You recovered quickly because your symptoms were mild, but every day you brought me medicine and candy. You were so scared of me that you didn’t dare to speak a word.
Even when I fell asleep, you didn’t wake me up. You sat beside my bed for an hour, and when the medicine got cold, you quietly went out to ask someone to warm it up for me.”
“I was always aloof. My older siblings were much older than me, and the kids my age were from different branches of the family. They all feared me, so I was always alone.
But you every time you saw me, you’d greet me politely. You even gave gifts to Charlie during the holidays, and I remembered that too. Even though you were kind and polite, I kept that in my heart for many years, never forgetting it.
But I knew you didn’t like me in that way, and you were so much older than me, so I buried all those feelings. I’m just glad that now, I finally have the chance to tell you.”
Years had passed, and Jenna could no longer remember all the details of what Chad described.
But when she saw the brightness in his eyes, as if they were filled with starlight, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion and tears.

Chapter 20
In her own search for stars, she had unknowingly become the guiding star in someone else’s life.
She wiped her tears on his clothes, choking on her words,
“Then, every Christmas, was it you who placed the gifts outside my window?”
“It was me.”
“Was the dress I wore on my eighteenth birthday also from you, hidden among the gifts from Chad?“.
“You
You guessed it?”
“When you heard I was going to marry you, were you so happy that you didn’t know where to go?”
“I was lost in all directions.
The winter wind howled, cold and desolate.
Jenna stood alone on the empty rooftop, her thoughts in a haze.
She didn’t know why she was here, nor did she understand how, in the blink of an eye, she saw the three people she most dreaded.
Xena was holding a little boy in her left hand, while her right hand was nestled comfortably in Chad’s pocket, walking toward her with a lofty air.
“Where’s your precious daughter?”
“Where’s your precious daughter?”
These words haunted Jenna’s mind like a nightmare.
She frantically scanned the area, desperately trying to find any sign of her daughters, but there was no one around. The rooftop was empty, the air cold and still.
When she looked up again, her gaze was caught by a silver necklace gleaming with a cold light. It stung her eyes, making her wince.
She couldn’t help but close her eyes.
When she opened them again, she found herself snapped back into reality, the dream fading away.
Outside the window, the first light of dawn peeked through the horizon, casting a faint glow. The small night lamp on her bedside illuminated the calendar.
Today was December 7th.
On the same day last year, kidnappers had taken her daughter and pushed her off the rooftop.
And once again, that night, she had dreamt of that terrible scene.
