Chapter 4
The doctor’s words hung in the air as he walked out of the room. “It must be her husband who signed the surgery.
consent form.
Didn’t we say the patient needed 24–hour care during her coma? Where did he go? Luckily, nothing serious happened. You can go ahead and handle the paperwork now.”
Jenna tried to clarify, her voice faint. “He’s not my husband.”
But the doctor had already walked out, and Charlie, standing at the door, couldn’t help but feel a strange discomfort
rise in his chest.
“Alright, you’ve been brought to the hospital. Are you really going to play this game of ‘catch me if you can‘ now? Enough’s enough.”
He placed a bag on the table, then his gaze fell on the bandages wrapped around her head. His voice softened, almost gently.
“It’s still warm. Eat it while it’s hot.”
Jenna froze, staring at the familiar logo on the bag.
In the past, every time she was sick and couldn’t eat anything, Charlie would drive miles away, waiting in long lines to buy her red bean pastries from that shop just to cheer her up.
But ever since the engagement news had come out, he hadn’t been this kind to her either in this life or the previous
one.
The steam rising from the bag seemed to mock her, and she closed her eyes, not reaching for it.
The silence was thick until Charlie’s voice, hesitant and almost reluctant, cut through.
“About yesterday… Xena didn’t mean it. Don’t make things difficult for her.”
It was still about Xena.
Jenna’s eyes snapped open, and to her surprise, she found herself laughing through the tears that welled up in her
eyes.
“Charlie, she did this on purpose! I’ll report it to the police and make sure she faces the consequences!”
Charlie’s expression froze, and frustration flickered in his eyes.
“I’ve bought you the things, and I’ve apologized on her behalf. Jenna, stop pushing your luck!”
Jenna looked at him, her eyes red, her smile tinged with bitterness. Her gaze was like an unspoken challenge, a silent standoff between the two of them.
Chapter 4
Charlie seemed to know that arguing was pointless with her stubbornness After what felt like an eternity, he finally rubbed his temples in frustration and let out a heavy sigh.
“Alright, alright. If that’s what you want, let’s each take a step Isack. You’ve made such a scene because you want me to marry you, right?
Fine. I’ll give you the wedding the one you’ve been obsessing over. The one both families are already preparing for. I’ll go! Are you happy now?”
Jenna’s gaze dropped to the floor, her heart heavy with memories of the past.
In her previous life, Charlie hadn’t shown up at their wedding
He had despised her, and he had despised the wedding. Now, despite his reluctant agreement, she could tell it was still all for the sake of Xena.
She remembered that even in their last life, despite his lack of affection for her, Charlie had still married her, likely because his family had forced him into it.
After all. Xena, the maid’s daughter, was his only weakness and an easy target for manipulation.
He wasn’t afraid of being coerced.
But this time. Jenna refused to make the same mistake.
She spoke plainly, the words cutting through the air like a blade.
“I don’t need it. The groom was never meant to be you. Whether you go or not, it doesn’t matter.”
Charlie’s temper finally snapped. Just as he was about to lash out, his phone rang.
turned and left. Seeing the name “Xena” on the screen, his frustration melted away. Without another word, he
Jenna watched him walk out, the door clicking shut behind him. She picked up her phone and dialed 911 to report
the accident.
But after explaining everything, she received an unexpected response.
“Miss Hall, I’m sorry, but this was an accident. Your fiancé cigned a letter of forgiveness on the spot, so we can’t open
a case.”
The words hit her like a blow to the chest. It was as if her breath had been knocked out of her.
The anger and frustration swelled up inside her, but she couldn’t do anything with it.
Without thinking, she slammed her phone against the wall. The shards scattered across the floor, and the pain from the broken device echoed through her body, spreading from her limbs all the way to her heart.
Finally, in the emptiness of the hospital room, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Her tears flowed freely, her sobs echoing in the silent space..
Chapter 4
For the next few days, Charlie visited the hospital almost every day, bringing fruits and soups, and even organizing a team of doctors to consult on her case.
By this time, Jenna’s emotions had stabilized, and she no longer cared about him. She saw him as nothing more than
a distant figure.
Her coldness made him uneasy. He didn’t understand what was going on, unsure of what more she was upset about. But since she was still a patient, he endured it, silently frustrated.
Finally, on the day she was set to be discharged, Jenna refused to get in his car. When he could no longer hold back his irritation, he confronted her.
“I’ve already compromised. How long are you going to keep this up? Are you going to continue playing these games until I snap and refuse to marry you?”
Jenna knew that no matter how much she explained, he wouldn’t believe her, so she lowered her head and pretended not to hear him.

“Alright, alright. No more of this nonsense. My uncle is coming back today. I’ll take you to the family dinner. He’s the head of the Spencer family, and tonight, in front of the whole family, he’ll announce our marriage.
Since I promised, I’ll show up. Then I’ll give you the grand wedding you wanted. That should be enough, right?”
