Chapter 15
Neil pov
At first I remained in Leal’s arms, astonished by the overwhelming peace and comfort that came with her hug, and I couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t felt anything like it and I wanted to stay there forever.
“Were you having a dream?” Her voice pulled me back to my senses and I immediately repelled from her. I looked into her eyes and found concern for the first time since seeing her again.
I moved away from her side and headed straight to the door and then her small hand caught mine, pulling me back, “where are you going?”
I turned to look at her, and her hand holding mine. This was why I had slept in separate rooms for years and now I hated that someone had caught me in the middle of a nightmare, I hated that it was Leah of all people.
I’m awake,” I said in a sharp tone, turning to head outside to calm my head.
She stood in front of the door and shook her head fast, “yeah, no you’re not going anywhere.”
It wasn’t hard to shove her out of my way and I did it as carefully as I could handle her.
Once outside. I raked my fingers through my hair and buried my face in my hands. My chest still felt tight and i tapped my palm against my chest hoping that would help.
“Is this something that happens often?” Her voice coming from behind startled me. I turned to look at her, her concern had been replaced with curiousity.
“Why are you following me?”
“You seemed like you were having a panic attack, yeah, I’m not going to leave you by yourself whether you want it or not,” she inched closer to me, her hands folded across her chest, “you wanted a thank you, take this as me repaying the debt I owe you.”
I raked my eyes from her head to her toe, seeing her in my shirt, I almost forgot what had been going on with me. When I first saw Leah at that funeral, I thought I might have been waking up from a dream at first but then she spoke up and I still couldn’t believe it. After all those years.
“Well seeing that you’re okay, I’m going back to sleep, don’t wake me up with your groans if you don’t want me interfering.” she rolled her eyes, heading back into the shed.
I let out a sigh, pacing around outside for a while before heading back in. She was asleep when I returned. I took my place on the floor, had no idea when I drifted back to sleep.
When I opened my eyes the next morning she was gone. At first I thought someone had come for her but then I found my neatly folded shirt on the bed and her clothes gone.
I sat up, groaning from the ache of sleeping on the hard wooden floor.
I headed to my car, picked my phone and turned it on. First a million texts from Ella, and then my mother, and assistants. I let out an annoyed sigh, looking back at the cabin. This was my hideaway in my teenage years before we moved from my childhood home to the Devon family mansion.
I couldn’t get Leah out of my head the entire ride back to the hotel.
My assistant was waiting by the door of the hotel room, ready to feed me with all the news of how the shareholders meeting. was rescheduled.
I could barely hear him, my mind tracing off to my ex–wife, wondering if she was okay. With no way to contact her, I felt

helpless. I didn’t know why I cared so much. But I needed to know.
Just then, my assistant announced, sit, miss Ella is here
I looked up seeing her in my hotel room. She was wearing one of the fancy dresses I was used to seeing her in. She had her eyes wide with worry as she hurried to my side where I sat on the desk near the floor to ceiling window.
“Neil! You’re okay! I was so worried the entire time, why on earth did you dissppear without a word?” She leaned in to cup my face, tilting my head in multiple ways to scan for injuries of any sort.
I stared at Ella, her voice trailing off as I clouded my head. When she had first returned, I had gone to her in disbelief, the entire length of my marriage with Leah, I couldn’t stop blaming myself for not being enough for Ella, that she had to leave
me at the altar.
I was ready to drop it all, to forgive her when she returned and then when Leah left, it was the perfect chance to.
For all those years. Ella had constantly asked me to get married to her. My excuse was the same, ‘we don’t know if Leah is okay, I can’t ignore this sudden disappearance and act like it’s fine!
Ella had nodded sweetly, saying you waited all those time for me, it’s my turn to wait now.
“Neil, are you even listening?” She asked me, drawing me out of my thoughts.
I got to my feet, moving away from her. But now I knew where Leah was, she was fine, she was safe and most of all, my fists. balled by my side, there was a man by her side.
“And ever since…” Ella seemed to still be speaking.
If Leah was here in Los Angeles, it could only mean one thing.
Jack?” I cut Ella off, turning to face my assistant.”
“Yes sir?”
“Find a penthouse here in LA, equipped with security,” I told him, ‘contact some movers from New Orleans, tell them to move everything that belongs to me from the mansion, and deliver it safely.”
“Neil, what’s going on?” Ella stepped forward, her voice almost fading to nothing.
I’m moving to Los Angeles.”
