Chapter 21
“Um, what do you think you’re doing?” I raised one eyebrow at him, inching closer to the bed.
Instead of responding, he undid his tie and tossed it onto the bed.
Tasked you a question,” I said, blinking, waiting for him to answer.
He ran his fingers through his hair. Tm staying here.
“Why would you want to stay here with me?” I looked around the hotel room, an amused smirk tugging on my lips, it was official that Neil Devon had clearly gone mad by now.
“Because I still believe the culprit is out there, and you’re being so reckless”
“I don’t… I’m strong enough. Listen, I don’t need you to play security guard for me. I’m fine on my own. Just like Max was continuously pestering me about my safety, Neil was here, doing the same thing. My eyebrows pulled together at the thought of it
“Well, yeah. I’m here. Might as well just spend the night.” He spoke casual. Too casual. He was acting like there was nothing to
I looked at the door, then back at him. He widened his eyes.
“Whoa, whoa whoa. I’m not going to do anything to you.” He sat up in bed, rolling the sleeves of his shirt.
“You wouldn’t even dare, even if you tried,” I walked towards the closet to reach for my pyjamas that I could change into. It was already a tiring day, I knew I shouldn’t have let him come here, I should be sleeping but here I was, chatting my rest away with this man I really didn’t want to be with.
“Yeah, just because you say it doesn’t mean bullshit, you’re a total stranger and I don’t want to know what you’re capable of
I found a pink set I’d folded in there earlier, flipping it front, and then back to see if I wanted it as my choice.
“If I wanted to, I had a chance that night at the cabin,” he said, his voice a little bit lowered by now, “you can trust me. I was married to you for four years and-”
“That’s enough. You can stay if you want,” I shut him up, not wanting to listen to any bits of our marriage.
I took a towel and headed towards the bathroom door, looking over my shoulder at him with a frown, “do not fucking touch anything, I snapped at him.
He raised his hands in defeat at me.
I disappeared into the bathroom to take a shower. I stripped out of my clothes and stared at the door. The only barricade between my naked body and Neil was the bathroom door.
I burst out laughing at what I thought Max’s reaction would be if he found out I shared a room with my ex husband.
As the water ran down my skin, I thought about the only time Neil saw me naked was the night he mistook me for Ella, we had sex, and I turned out pregnant. Other than that, I didn’t think he’d cared enough.
“I wonder if he is curious to know what my body looks like now?” I smirked, and then widened my eyes, “what the hell am I thinking right now?”
I nodded to myself, it was only because I had been deprived of a man for too long by now.
I didn’t waste any more time there. I headed out of the bathroom.

I was dying my hair with a towel, and when I walked into the room. I paused. There was a large tray, and by now he had
sone a few buttons of his shirt. His sleeves were rolled up, and I noticed there was something placed on the table, Food.
What is all this? I wondered aloud.
Well Lørdered room service, he replied. “You were in the bathroom for too long“
We already had enough to eat at the meeting. That was so necessary
I sighed. “I told you not to touch anything”
“I
“You didn’t mention that I couldn’t touch the hotel’s public phone,” he said with a smug look. “I must make a point”
Just please get out of here and go take a shower.”
“Not until you start eating something”
I ignored him immediately, heading toward a more private area of the hotel room. I changed into my pyjamas, ran straight out, walked over to the bed, and quickly laid there.
ng that I was clearly going to have my way, he nodded and headed to the bathroom.
I muttered. “I think they have robes you can change into or something. And if you don’t find the clothes convenient for you, you can just call room service.”
I raised a brow. “I don’t even know why I’m doing this in the first place. I don’t deserve to take care of you at all because you chose to stay here by yourself. It’s so annoying.”
sighed, and he smiled. “Thank you,” he said softly before disappearing into the bathroom.
I hated this version of him. I hated how nice he was being, and I just wanted the ild him back so that I could hate him without interrupting what I was feeling.
It wasn’t long before he stepped into the room. I heard the clang of plates as he ate, and I frowned, pressing the pillow against my ear to drown out the noise and sleep.
After a while, it stopped, and I noticed he was walking away from me.
“Where are you going?” I sat up.
To sleep?”
Seeing my confused look he added.
I’m going to take the couch,” he said without looking back.
“And bother me with some type of dream again in the middle of the night, I don’t think so, I tapped the space next to me Just sleep on the bed. It’s nothing. It’s not like you’re going to do anything anyways,” I s
said.
He paused. “You really want me to sleep next to you?”
I was still about to nod when, all of a sudden, he grabbed my wrists, yanking me down do I was laying flat on my back. I let out a gasp as he suddenly hovered above me, pinning both my hands to the sides of my head.
“Are you sure we should take the bed together?” He asked in a whisper.
